What was your first job as a journalist?

Paid: Education reporter, North Kitsap Herald, Poulsbo, Wash. Unpaid: The Farley Times, which I wrote as a boy. Subscribers: My parents.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

In school. I miss how palpable it felt to hit the keys and feel the ink punch the paper.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Clark Kent. Sorry, but it's hard to beat a journalist by day, super hero by night.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MacBook Pro. Canon Rebel. iPhone. Desk phone. iPad. Notepad.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter: It's a fascinating new integrated world and a new way to connect with your community and those all over the planet.

Why did you become a journalist?

I have an insatiable curiosity. Around every corner is something to discover; I am fulfilled by discovering it.
