Here's another one of my favorite movies: Lucía, scr/dir Humberto Solás, Cuba, 1968. I used a poster for this film in an earlier story here, but now I'd like to show some of my favorite stills. (Note that the technical quality of some of the screen grabs is poor; I did the best I could with the resources at my disposal.) Lucía is a film in three parts, about three different women named Lucía from three different periods of revolution in Cuban history, filmed in three different styles.

The ABC’s of Extinction

I’m going to assume you already know your ABC’s because this is not for children. (Here’s my age-appropriate picture book for children on the climate catastrophe.) If my children were still young, I would not let them see this — or at least not without a lot of context about the other side of the coin: hope and action. (More than the one measly photo at the end.) Please do not let children see this unless you are prepared to provide that. The sole purpose of this is to shock people into action.

The Two Witnesses

Once upon a time, there was a murderer. It was pretty easy for him to murder people because he was the ruler of a nation. Press enter or click to view image in full size His favorite people to murder were women, because whenever he saw women enjoying their freedom… Press enter or click to view image in full size …it made him want to put them in their place (death). First he would torture them. Then he would have them shot into ditches. This woman’s mother was shot. He didn’t want her to see.
