Joyce Scott: Individual burn piles on private property
Are you concerned about the burn permits being issued in our area? And the number of them that escape the property owners? If you are concerned about burn permits allowed in our area, you can contact CalFire at webmaster@fire.ca.gov to ask why individuals are allowed burn permits to burn on their property. Also ask what kind of hands-on education they are receiving before igniting a fire. Also inquire if CalFire ever goes out to check the property on the days of their burn permits.

Letter: ‘Playing Down’ COVID
Gov. Noem, you have been following the Trump playbook of “playing down” the COVID-19 virus and the benefits of masks/face coverings. Now we know from the tapes of Trump’s exact words in his interviews with Bob Woodward that he understood by early February how powerful and dangerous COVID is — that it is airborne and is five times more powerful than a “strenuous flu” and will affect young people too. Yet, he egregiously lied about COVID to Americans for seven months.
Letter: Advice to Gov. Noem | The Mitchell Republic
To the Editor: Governor Noem, you have been following the Trump playbook of “playing down’” the COVID-19 virus and the benefits of masks/face coverings. Now we know from the tapes of Trump’s exact words in his interviews with Bob Woodward that he understood by early February how powerful and dangerous COVID is — that is airborne and is five times more powerful than a “strenuous flu” and will affect young people, too. Yet he egregiously lied about COVID to Americans for seven months.
We need better leadership from Gov. Noem

Joyce Scott: Fast and Fit, longtime fitness studio in Grass Valley, closes doors
There is a heavy and grieving heart within the lady writing this. I have had the privilege, fun and pleasure to be a part of Fast and Fit for 15 years as a personal trainer. My thanks go out to Judi Bannister, owner extraordinaire of Fast and Fit and super good friend. She has given me the pleasure to work with some of the finest ladies in Nevada County. What a blessing this has been. It’s not over for us in our hearts, minds and bodies. Many a friendship was formed within this circle of members.
Jodi Selene and Joyce Scott: Love Walk - ‘We can do better’
Jodi Selene and Joyce Scott Other Voices February 8, 2019 Jodi Selene and Joyce Scott Other Voices February 8, 2019 Mill Street in Grass Valley was blocked off and people were gathering, hugging each other and remarking about the snow, about the chill in the air. There were songs, Margo Stebbing read a wonderful poem that spoke of inclusion and how to build a village, with compost and gardening metaphors that most of us in this rural community could relate to.
Letter: ‘Reckless’ legislating in Washington
The recent Senate Votorama on health care was unprecedented legislative malpractice. This was the most reckless, irresponsible and cynical approach to legislating I have ever witnessed. Our own South Dakota Senator, John Thune, the third ranked Republican in the Senate leadership, was a major participant in the debacle. In fact, he was part of the 13 man (men only) panel that drafted the first horrendous health care bill (behind closed doors).
Letter: Articles give ‘insight’ re: IM 22 vote
Congratulations and thank you to Stu Whitney (Argus Leader/Dec. 6) and Doug Kronaizl (Argus Leader/Dec. 14) for their informative and insightful columns regarding Initiated Measure 22 and Gov. Dennis Daugaard and several legislators’ negative reactions to it. These two columns should be mandatory reading for state legislators and the executive branch, as it would give them some much needed insight into the thinking of voters.
