We drove it back to Illinois, planted it in full sun so it could thrive and faithfully watered it daily. Jack told us dawn redwoods lose their spindly leaves in winter, but that they return in summer. This spring, though, I noticed some marks, like knife cuts, on our tree’s slender bark.
