FPSO Experts Achieve Progress Through Cooperation
When the price of oil dropped, the floating production sector was hit hard. Asset owners found it difficult to secure new contracts, and FPSO and floating LNG vessel construction was put on hold. Market conditions precluded expansion in the sector, and on the surface things seemed to stagnate. Recent reports indicate the tide is turning.
Mexico Achieves Unprecedented Development
There were many skeptics when Mexico announced plans to open its oil and gas sector for foreign investment a few years ago—and for good reason. After more than 70 years of a state monopoly, the country would have to change its constitution to allow international companies to develop Mexico’s hydrocarbon reserves.
Robots Poised To Change The Face Of Offshore Operations
Automation has been part of offshore operations for decades. Dynamic positioning was introduced on a drillship in the 1970s, and equipment like the iron roughneck, which today is commonplace, has been around since the 1990s. Over the years, the industry has gradually adopted a range of onboard automated functionality that has enabled greater efficiency and enhanced safety. Today robotics is taking automation to the next level.

Data published in October indicated nearly 80% had not yet been delivered.
Deepwater Development Still Viable In The GoM
Sustained low oil prices have cast a pall on the offshore industry, but despite the very real likelihood that oil prices will remain at about $60 for the foreseeable future, operators in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) are not throwing in the towel. Instead, they are looking closely at their deepwater assets and asking not if they can be developed but how. GoM exploration activity in 2017 was a good indicator of the level of interest in deep water.
