Antibody Responses to Antigens from Helicobacter pylori and Streptococcus gallolyticus Subspecies gallolyticus and Colorectal Cancer–Specific and Overall Survival in the EPIC Cohort
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and Streptococcus gallolyticus subspecies gallolyticus (SGG) have been implicated in colorectal carcinogenesis, but whether host immune responses to these bacteria influence colorectal cancer (CRC) survival remains unclear. We investigated whether pre-diagnostic antibody responses to H. pylori and SGG antigens were associated with overall and CRC-specific mortality within a prospective cohort study.
No clear evidence for relationships of apolipoprotein E genotype with measures of common infections in three UK cohorts
Abstract APOE genotype is a very strong genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD). This relationship may involve mediation by common infections—several of which are also dementia risk factors. We investigated associations of APOE ε2 and ε4 carriage with serostatus and antibody titres to 14 common pathogens in three population-based cohorts (UK Biobank, National Survey of Health and Development, Southall and Brent Revisited).
A scalable high-throughput serolomics platform for profiling serum antibody responses in large-scale population-based cohorts
Abstract Seroepidemiological assays play a crucial role in tracking immunity and infectious disease exposure across populations. Here we describe an automated assay platform that robustly quantifies antibodies against up to 100 antigens in a single reaction, using Luminex suspension array technology, alongside generating ample quality control measures. This automated multiplex serology workflow is an advancement of our previously developed manual and hybrid multiplex serology platforms.
Epstein-Barr virus serology in relation to the outcomes of oral and genital human papillomavirus infections in women during 3-year follow-up
Abstract Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human papillomavirus (HPV) are common oncoviruses that infect similar anatomical sites, persist as latent infections, and contribute to oncogenesis. However, the role of EBV as a cofactor in HPV infection outcomes remains unclear. This study assessed the implications of EBV serology on oral and genital HPV infections in a longitudinal setting. The study included 280 women from the Finnish Family HPV cohort, followed for three years.

Infectious pathogens and risk of esophageal, gastric and duodenal cancers and ulcers in China: A case‐cohort study
1 INTRODUCTION Chronic infection with certain viruses and bacteria play an important role in the etiology of cancer, causing about 2.2 million new cancer cases in 2018, with low- and middle-income countries such as China particularly affected.1-4 Helicobacter pylori (H.

Kava may be coming to a supermarket or cafe near you. But what is it? Is it safe?
You might be hearing more about kava over coming months, the psychoactive drink better known in the Pacific, but becoming more widely available in Australia. How it’s imported and regulated has changed. So you might be able to buy it in the supermarket, health-food shop or go to a kava bar to drink it with your friends. You might be curious to try it and not sure it’s safe. Here’s what you need to know about kava in Australia. What is kava?

Overweight/obesity in young adulthood interacts with aspects of EBV infection in MS etiology
Abstract Objective Because obesity affects the cellular immune response to infections, we aimed to investigate whether high body mass index (BMI) in young adulthood and high Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA-1) antibody levels interact with regard to MS risk.

Seropositivity for Helicobacter pylori and hepatobiliary cancers in the PLCO study
Abstract Helicobacter has been suggested to play a possible role in hepatitis, gallstones, and hepatobiliary tumours. We assessed whether seropositivity to 15 H. pylori proteins was associated with subsequent incidence of 74 biliary tract and 105 liver cancer cases vs. 357 matched controls in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (PLCO).
