It had been fifty years to the day since his public debut at the same console, and he marked it by recreating his 1975 set — from the showbiz punch of “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” to “Days of Wine and Roses,” the 1920s romp “Flapparet,” “Soon It’s Gonna Rain,” and “Cheek to Cheek.” Friends asked how he could remember it all. “I didn’t,” he says.
