High-Risk Homeowners: 67% Would Weather Climate Risk for a Good Deal on a House

Climate risk isn’t enough to discourage many current and future homeowners from taking advantage of a good deal on a home, according to insights from an Insurify survey. Despite living in areas with moderate-to-high climate risk, 54% of surveyed homeowners bought homes unaware of their risk. Insurify surveyed 1,000 Americans aged 23 and older who own or are buying a home in moderate-to-high risk areas to learn how they perceive and experience climate risk.

In 2025, the average American household pays $6,934 per year in maintenance and upkeep costs alone, according to Insurify’s most recent analysis. Homeownership is still the goal for nearly all Gen Z renters. But emotional reasons, not financial ones, motivate them, according to a recent Insurify survey of 1,002 Americans ages 22 to 28, of which nearly half were renters.

‘Above-Normal’ Atlantic Hurricane Season Could Cause Surge in Home Insurance Rates

Scientists predict an “above-normal” 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, slightly less active than the East Coast experienced last year. This year, the U.S. could see 17 named storms, including eight tropical storms, five hurricanes, and four major hurricanes, according to the Colorado State University (CSU) Seasonal Hurricane Forecasting team. Homeowners in hurricane-prone states already face high home insurance rates.
