Letter: Diagnostic Assessment and Temporal Trends in Non- Helicobacter pylori , Non-NSAID Bleeding Ulcers. Authors' Reply
We thank Drs. Koulaouzidis and Marlicz for their comments on our meta-analysis [1, 2]. Their comments concern the stability of adjusted temporal estimates across study subsets, and the influence of variation in H. pylori ascertainment. First, the adjusted study-year estimates varied in magnitude and precision across sensitivity analyses. Estimates were smaller in the subset originally classified as using at least two H.

Meta-Analysis: Prevalence of Non- Helicobacter pylori , Non-NSAID Peptic Ulcer Disease
CI confidence interval H. pylori Helicobacter pylori PUD peptic ulcer disease 1 Introduction Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) remains a major cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and associated mortality [1-3]. It accounts for approximately 60%–70% of cases requiring emergency endoscopy for upper gastrointestinal bleeding, with a 30-day mortality of about 10% [4, 5]. Helicobacter pylori infection and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use are the two primary established causes of PUD [6-8].

Post-adjuvant chemotherapy in ctDNA-positive patients with resected colorectal cancer: a randomized phase 3 trial
|
Abstract Tumor-informed circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) enables detection of molecular residual disease (MRD) after curative resection of colorectal cancer (CRC), but whether early intervention improves outcomes remains uncertain. ALTAIR was a randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial embedded in the CIRCULATE-Japan platform evaluating a post-adjuvant ctDNA surveillance strategy with treatment initiation upon molecular recurrence.

Preoperative ctDNA and tumor volume predict colorectal cancer recurrence after metastasis resection
|
Abstract Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) testing in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) has demonstrated clinical significance in various contexts, including post-curative resection. Therefore, we developed a predictive model integrating preoperative ctDNA levels with radiographic imaging to assess the risk of postoperative recurrence in patients with CRC.

Computer‐aided diagnosis for colorectal polyp in comparison with endoscopists: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
INTRODUCTION Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, as reported by the global cancer statistics 2020.1 Many colorectal cancers develop from small polyps, and colonoscopic resection of adenomatous polyps has been shown to reduce colorectal cancer mortality by 53%.2 Accurate detection and removal of neoplastic polyps are therefore crucial in preventing the progression to cancer.

Future direction of total neoadjuvant therapy for locally advanced rectal cancer - Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology
Abstract Despite therapeutic advancements, disease-free survival and overall survival of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer have not improved in most trials as a result of distant metastases. For treatment decision-making, both long-term oncologic outcomes and impact on quality-of-life indices should be considered (for example, bowel function).

Remnant liver function is associated with long-term survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing hepatectomy - Scientific Reports
Abstract It is important to assess the prognosis and intervene before and after surgery in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. This study aims to elucidate the association of outcomes and residual liver function after hepatectomy. A total of 176 patients who underwent the initial resection for hepatocellular carcinoma between January 2011 and March 2021 at Jichi Medical University were included.

Therapeutic targeting of metabolic vulnerabilities in cancers with MLL3/4-COMPASS epigenetic regulator mutations
Abstract Epigenetic status–altering mutations in chromatin-modifying enzymes are a feature of human diseases, including many cancers. However, the functional outcomes and cellular dependencies arising from these mutations remain unresolved. In this study, we investigated cellular dependencies, or vulnerabilities, that arise when enhancer function is compromised by loss of the frequently mutated COMPASS family members MLL3 and MLL4.

Paraoxonase 1 and Chronic Kidney Disease: A Meta-Analysis
Abstract : Oxidative stress is known to be associated with the pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is an antioxidant enzyme that has been proposed as a biomarker for CKD. While several studies have reported an association between serum PON1 activity and CKD, consensus based on systematically analyzed data remains necessary. We set out to conduct a meta-analysis of literature on PON1 in CKD.

Molecular residual disease and efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with colorectal cancer - Nature Medicine
Abstract Despite standard-of-care treatment, more than 30% of patients with resectable colorectal cancer (CRC) relapse. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis may enable postsurgical risk stratification and adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) treatment decision-making. We report results from GALAXY, which is an observational arm of the ongoing CIRCULATE-Japan study (UMIN000039205) that analyzed presurgical and postsurgical ctDNA in patients with stage II–IV resectable CRC (n = 1,039).

Food Microbiology Takura Wakinaka, Jun Watanabe M. Julia Pettinari, Editor DOI: 10.1128/AEM.00208-19 ABSTRACT Tetragenococcus halophilus, a halophilic lactic acid bacterium, is often used as a starter culture in the manufacturing of soy sauce. T. halophilus possesses an arginine deiminase system, which is responsible for the accumulation of citrulline, the main precursor of the potential carcinogen ethyl carbamate.

Can interspecies hybrid Zygosaccharomyces rouxii produce allohaploid gamete?
In soy sauce manufacturing, Candida versatilis plays a role in the production of volatile flavor compounds, such as volatile phenols, but limited accessible information on its genome has prevented further investigation regarding aroma production and breeding. Although the draft genome sequence data of two strains of C. versatilis have recently been reported, these strains are not similar to each other.
