Electrochemically Activated Highly Reversible Sulfate Conversion Enables High-Voltage and Large-Volumetric-Capacity Zinc-Based Anion–Cation Shuttle Battery
1 Introduction Dual-ion batteries (DIBs) have attracted extensive research interest due to advantages of less metal consumption, shorter ion migration distance, and higher cost-effectiveness [1-3]. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, which work based on the migration of cation (Li+) between cathode and anode, the cations and anions in DIBs participate in both cathode and anode reactions [4, 5].

Revisiting Zn-specific nucleation via a dimensionless factor to quantify interfacial electrochemistry of aqueous batteries
Abstract Zn-based aqueous batteries have attracted widespread research attention, while the lack of nucleation theory for electrochemical interactions at the Zn-water interface constrains efforts to suppress the thermodynamically spontaneous hydrogen evolution reaction and dendrite formation, thereby stalling practical development. Elucidating Zn electrodeposition in aqueous media requires Zn-specific nucleation theory and a descriptor to regulate interfacial electrochemistry.
Chirality Engineering and Properties in Two-Dimensional Layered Materials
1 Introduction Chirality, the property where an object cannot be superimposed on its mirror image, is ubiquitous in nature. It is essential in biomolecules and enantiomeric chemistry. Furthermore, it confers materials with a unique helical potential field that induces spin-orbit coupling (SOC), leading to phenomena such as circular dichroism (CD) and the chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect.
Low-complexity non-integer fractionally spaced feed-forward equalization with half-symbol-spaced kernel estimation for 100-GBaud/λ PAM-4 transmission
A low-complexity non-integer fractionally spaced feed-forward equalizer (FFE) with half-symbol-spaced kernel estimation (HSSKE) is proposed for high-speed intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) transmission systems. By employing HSSKE, the proposed scheme enables accurate and aliasing-free kernel estimation at 2 samples per symbol (sps) while achieving efficient equalization at fractional sampling rates below 2 sps.

Ultrathin crown ether-based polyamide membrane for ion-ion separations
Abstract Membrane-based liquid separations that selectively extract valuable ionic species from water can enhance resource circularity across industries. However, commercial membranes lack the selectivity required to target specific ions. Here we design crown-ether-based polymeric membranes for ion–ion separations using principles inspired by biological ion channels. Ultrathin membranes (~6 nm) are fabricated via interfacial polymerization of crosslinked 18-crown-6 units.

Deciphering co-ion and counterion transport in polyamide desalination membranes reveals ion selectivity mechanisms
Abstract Membrane-based processes, such as reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF), are widely used for water purification and desalination due to their high energy efficiency and exceptional solute-water selectivity. Nevertheless, the fundamental, molecular-level mechanisms governing ion selectivity are still not fully understood. This study explores ion selectivity in polyamide desalination membranes, focusing on the partitioning and diffusion mechanisms of co-ions and counterions.

Anionic Strategy-Modulated Magnetic Ordering in Super-elongated Multiferroic Epitaxial Films - Nature Communications
Abstract Magnetic ordering of perovskite ferroelectric oxides is crucial for enhancing their stability and minimizing energy losses in magnetoelectric devices. However, inducing a transition from a magnetically disordered state to an ordered one remains a formidable challenge. Here, we propose a chemical sulfurization method that significantly enhances the magnetic ordering of multiferroic super-tetragonal phase BiFeO3 thin film.
Excellent hardening effect in lead-free piezoceramics by embedding local Cu-doped defect dipoles in phase boundary engineering - Nature Communications
Abstract Piezoceramics for high-power applications require both high piezoelectric coefficient (d33) and mechanical quality factor (Qm). However, the trade-off between them poses a significant challenge in achieving high values simultaneously, which is more prominent in lead-free piezoceramics. Here, we propose a new strategy, local Cu-acceptor defect dipoles embedded orthorhombic-tetragonal phase boundary engineering (O-T PBE), to balance d33 and Qm in potassium sodium niobate piezoceramics.
Low-complexity cluster-assisting look-up-table-based Volterra decision-feedback equalizer for IM/DD systems
To address the challenges posed by chromatic dispersion (CD)-induced power fading and nonlinear signal distortions in double-sideband (DSB) intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) transmission systems, a combination of a Volterra feed-forward equalizer (VFFE) and a Volterra decision-feedback equalizer (VDFE) is widely employed. However, the conventional VFFE–VDFE exhibits significant computational complexity, particularly for longer memory lengths.
Interlayer reconstruction phase transition in van der Waals materials - Nature Materials
Abstract Van der Waals materials display rich structural polymorphs with distinct physical properties. An atomistic understanding of the phase-transition dynamics, propagation pathway and associated evolution of physical properties is essential for capturing their potential in practical technologies. However, direct visualization of the rapid phase-transition process is fundamentally challenging due to the inherent trade-offs among atomic resolution, field of view and imaging frame rate.

Designing membranes with specific binding sites for selective ion separations - Nature Water
Abstract A new class of membranes that can separate ions of similar size and charge is highly desired for resource recovery, water reuse and energy storage technologies. These separations require membrane nanochannels with simultaneous ångström-scale confinement and ion-selective binding sites. Conventional membrane material design uses continuous, volume-averaged properties that cannot account for discrete chemical interactions between ions and binding sites.
