Mini cooldown coming, but it’s still hot
TONIGHT: Dry this evening with any clouds clearing overnight. Temperatures fall into the low 70s with patchy fog early in the morning. MONDAY - TUESDAY: Rain chances are near 0% and look to stay there until Friday, meaning mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be hot, with slightly lower humidity (still looks a little muggy). Highs will reach into the mid-upper 90s with feels like temps reaching past 100°. Winds will pick up from the northeast Tuesday.

TONIGHT: Showers continue to work east towards I-75 until around 10pm. Showers should be done after that. Overnight, temperatures drop into the low 70s, with skies eventually clearing some late. This should promote fog development in the late overnight/early morning hours. SUNDAY: Drier with a little more sun and warmer temperatures. Rain chances are slim at around 20-30%, a couple showers could pop in the afternoon, but models have them being isolated.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Showers and Storms should steadily taper heading through the evening, flooding will be possible at least until sunset. Overnight things settle down, but not for long, more rounds of showers and storms arrive Sunday morning and take your through the day. These storms will also carry a flooding risk, torrential downpours are expected for some. The work week looks drier, and rain chances fall to near average.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of South Georgia: feels like temperatures will be 100°+ throughout the afternoon, peaking up to 112°. The Heat Advisory and First Alert Weather Day expires at 8pm tonight. FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY WEDNESDAY: Dangerous heat and humidity continues on Wednesday.

TONIGHT: Mostly dry, temperatures drop into the mid 70s. MONDAY: Highs climb into the mid-upper 90s east of I-75, while locations west of I-75 linger in the low-mid 90s. Isolated rainfall will bring heat relief to some Monday afternoon. Rain chances look isolated, mainly to the west of I-75.

The main threats will be damaging winds and small hail, but the risk seems very low at this point.

TROPICAL STORM BERTHA HAS MADE LANDFALL
At 3pm, Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. This is the second tropical storm landfall so far this year (Arthur 2026 made landfall on June 17th). This is already more than the previous 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season, where we only had one tropical storm landfall, and that was Chantal early in the morning on July 6th. Bertha has made Landfall Bertha will continue moving west likely weakening and further disorganizing.

TONIGHT: Spotty showers and storms will float into the Flint River Valley this evening, and potentially linger until midnight. Severe weather is not expected, but heavy downpours with some lightning is possible. Temperatures bottom out in the low 70s overnight. MONDAY: Monday turns wetter, temperatures linger in the low 90s. Currently known as Tropical Depression Two is forecasted to turn into Tropical Storm Bertha on Monday.
Tropical Storm Bertha Forming in the Gulf
Tropical Depression Two has formed in the Gulf, and it looks like it will continue to steadily organize and intensify into a Tropical Storm heading into the early work week. The next name on the list is Bertha, and the National Hurricane Center is forecasting it to take the name by Monday.
Tropical System Brings Rain this Week
TROPICS UPDATE: The National Hurricane Center has upped chances again today. As of the 8pm update, INVEST 91L in the Gulf has a 40% chance to develop in the next two days, and a 50% chance in the next 7 days. A tropical depression is looking increasingly likely by the hour, but further intensification into a more organized tropical storm isn’t very likely at this time. The Gulf Coast will see the most significant rainfall from this system. South Georgia will see its fair share too.
Tropical Development More Likely in the Gulf
(WALB) - The National Hurricane Center now has upped the chances for development INVEST 91L in the Gulf. It is now a broad area of low pressure, but still far from organized. It is fighting dry air and wind shear, but the sea surface temperatures are very warm. Models show the system meandering over warm waters for a couple days, which may be enough to overcome dry air and wind shear, and briefly reach tropical storm status.
More Rounds of Storms for the Work Week
TONIGHT: Storms are done for the night. We may see a stray shower overnight, but most look dry. Temperatures drop into the low 70s. Mostly Dry Tonight. MONDAY: More numerous storms arrive in the afternoon and last through the evening. Some locations could see multiple rounds of showers and storms, perhaps causing minor flooding. Storms are expected to stay below severe thresholds, but you cannot rule out gusty winds with these storms.

NFL clears Brendan Sorsby to pursue 2027 NFL Draft amid gambling saga
Former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby said Tuesday that he is focused on preparing for the 2027 NFL Draft, publicly putting an end to any attempts to play football in 2026 or challenge the league's decision to not hold a supplemental draft for him. The NFL sent a memo to its 32 teams Tuesday, informing them that Sorsby would not be pursuing litigation against the league. "For purposes of League and CBA rules, Mr. Sorsby will be considered a 'Draft-Eligible' player for the 2027 NFL Draft.

What is a Heat Dome and How it’s Impacting South Georgia
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A large Heat Dome will dominate the weather pattern for South Georgia this week. A Heat Dome is directly related to a large ridge, or a northward bulge, in the jet stream. Underneath this upper-level ridge, air sinks and warms as it drops to the surface. This creates a sprawling surface high pressure, underneath the ridge, as hot air is continually reinforced at the surface.

TONIGHT - SUNDAY: South Georgia looks to stay mostly dry and clear through Sunday. Expect it to be hot and sunny in the afternoon. Temperatures start warm in the mid 70s Sunday morning and peak in the mid 90s in the afternoon. Heat Index/Feels-Like Temps will be above 100°. Hot, Humid and Sunny on your Sunday MONDAY: Looks mostly dry and sunny west of I-75 with more storm potential east of I-75. Temperatures peak in the mid 90s during the afternoon with feels-like temperatures topping 105° for some.
Storm Chances Taper, Temperatures Soar
TONIGHT: A cold front will sag south tonight which will help inspire a few spotty showers/storms late this evening into the overnight hours. Overall, storms will be weakening/weakened by the time they arrive in South Georgia, but there is a chance one briefly turns severe. Main impact is damaging winds, but the threat is very low and confined to Stewart, Webster and Sumter counties mainly. Isolated Storms/Showers Tonight Storms should be easing by 3am.

FIRST TROPICAL STORM OF THE SEASON FORMING SOON
The disturbance over Mexico and Texas will meander into the northern Gulf today. Intensification and organization is expected today and tonight, and it is forecast to become Tropical Storm Arthur by Wednesday morning. Arthur is Forecast to Form Wednesday Flood Watches and Tropical Storm Watches are in effect throughout the Texas and Louisiana Coasts. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings and Coastal Flood Warnings are already in effect along the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
Stormy All Week Long
TONIGHT: Models are hinting at a second batch of showers to work their way through late this evening, probably around midnight. Rain coverage will be low. Cloudy with maybe a stray shower tonight will keep temperatures warm, in the low-mid 70s. Lows Tonight MONDAY: Widespread rain and storms arrives on Monday, which looks to be the wettest day of the week. Rain starts developing in the early afternoon and will linger through the rest of the day even into the overnight for some.

If you are west of I-75, an isolated shower or storm is possible, but most will stay dry. If you are east of I-75, showers and storms will continue through the evening, isolated flooding will be possible. Storm activity either settles or moves out of Southwest Georgia by midnight.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Flood Watch is in effect for parts locations along and west of the Flint River until 2am Wednesday. Widespread 2-3″ of rainfall may fall today in that area with isolated totals pushing closer to 5″. Flooding will be possible, especially in urban areas. Avoid flooded roadways and use extra caution while driving on wet roadways.

Another day of unsettled weather here in South Georgia for your Memorial Day. Daily rounds of afternoon storms remain in the forecast for the rest of the week.
