TROPICAL STORM BERTHA HAS MADE LANDFALL
At 3pm, Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. This is the second tropical storm landfall so far this year (Arthur 2026 made landfall on June 17th). This is already more than the previous 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season, where we only had one tropical storm landfall, and that was Chantal early in the morning on July 6th. Bertha has made Landfall Bertha will continue moving west likely weakening and further disorganizing.

TONIGHT: Spotty showers and storms will float into the Flint River Valley this evening, and potentially linger until midnight. Severe weather is not expected, but heavy downpours with some lightning is possible. Temperatures bottom out in the low 70s overnight. MONDAY: Monday turns wetter, temperatures linger in the low 90s. Currently known as Tropical Depression Two is forecasted to turn into Tropical Storm Bertha on Monday.
Tropical Storm Bertha Forming in the Gulf
Tropical Depression Two has formed in the Gulf, and it looks like it will continue to steadily organize and intensify into a Tropical Storm heading into the early work week. The next name on the list is Bertha, and the National Hurricane Center is forecasting it to take the name by Monday.
Tropical System Brings Rain this Week
TROPICS UPDATE: The National Hurricane Center has upped chances again today. As of the 8pm update, INVEST 91L in the Gulf has a 40% chance to develop in the next two days, and a 50% chance in the next 7 days. A tropical depression is looking increasingly likely by the hour, but further intensification into a more organized tropical storm isn’t very likely at this time. The Gulf Coast will see the most significant rainfall from this system. South Georgia will see its fair share too.
Tropical Development More Likely in the Gulf
(WALB) - The National Hurricane Center now has upped the chances for development INVEST 91L in the Gulf. It is now a broad area of low pressure, but still far from organized. It is fighting dry air and wind shear, but the sea surface temperatures are very warm. Models show the system meandering over warm waters for a couple days, which may be enough to overcome dry air and wind shear, and briefly reach tropical storm status.
More Rounds of Storms for the Work Week
TONIGHT: Storms are done for the night. We may see a stray shower overnight, but most look dry. Temperatures drop into the low 70s. Mostly Dry Tonight. MONDAY: More numerous storms arrive in the afternoon and last through the evening. Some locations could see multiple rounds of showers and storms, perhaps causing minor flooding. Storms are expected to stay below severe thresholds, but you cannot rule out gusty winds with these storms.

Big Changes Ahead: A Lot of Rain
THURSDAY: Warm and muggy to begin your Thursday, temperatures will be in the mid-upper 70s out the door this morning. NFL clears Brendan Sorsby to pursue 2027 NFL Draft amid gambling saga
Former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby said Tuesday that he is focused on preparing for the 2027 NFL Draft, publicly putting an end to any attempts to play football in 2026 or challenge the league's decision to not hold a supplemental draft for him. The NFL sent a memo to its 32 teams Tuesday, informing them that Sorsby would not be pursuing litigation against the league. "For purposes of League and CBA rules, Mr. Sorsby will be considered a 'Draft-Eligible' player for the 2027 NFL Draft.

We remain dry and mostly sunny through most of the day on Monday. These will allow temperatures to surge into the mid-upper 90s. Max feels-like temperatures could be over 105°. Warm Start, Hot End Late afternoon and evening could introduce a few showers and storms, but rainfall seems isolated and light in nature.
What is a Heat Dome and How it’s Impacting South Georgia
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A large Heat Dome will dominate the weather pattern for South Georgia this week. A Heat Dome is directly related to a large ridge, or a northward bulge, in the jet stream. Underneath this upper-level ridge, air sinks and warms as it drops to the surface. This creates a sprawling surface high pressure, underneath the ridge, as hot air is continually reinforced at the surface.
Infamous South Georgia Heat Won’t Go Away This Week
TONIGHT - SUNDAY: South Georgia looks to stay mostly dry and clear through Sunday. Expect it to be hot and sunny in the afternoon. Temperatures start warm in the mid 70s Sunday morning and peak in the mid 90s in the afternoon. Heat Index/Feels-Like Temps will be above 100°. Hot, Humid and Sunny on your Sunday MONDAY: Looks mostly dry and sunny west of I-75 with more storm potential east of I-75. Temperatures peak in the mid 90s during the afternoon with feels-like temperatures topping 105° for some.
Storm Chances Taper, Temperatures Soar
TONIGHT: A cold front will sag south tonight which will help inspire a few spotty showers/storms late this evening into the overnight hours. Overall, storms will be weakening/weakened by the time they arrive in South Georgia, but there is a chance one briefly turns severe. Main impact is damaging winds, but the threat is very low and confined to Stewart, Webster and Sumter counties mainly. Isolated Storms/Showers Tonight Storms should be easing by 3am.

FIRST TROPICAL STORM OF THE SEASON FORMING SOON
The disturbance over Mexico and Texas will meander into the northern Gulf today. Intensification and organization is expected today and tonight, and it is forecast to become Tropical Storm Arthur by Wednesday morning. Arthur is Forecast to Form Wednesday Flood Watches and Tropical Storm Watches are in effect throughout the Texas and Louisiana Coasts. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings and Coastal Flood Warnings are already in effect along the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
Stormy All Week Long
TONIGHT: Models are hinting at a second batch of showers to work their way through late this evening, probably around midnight. Rain coverage will be low. Cloudy with maybe a stray shower tonight will keep temperatures warm, in the low-mid 70s. Lows Tonight MONDAY: Widespread rain and storms arrives on Monday, which looks to be the wettest day of the week. Rain starts developing in the early afternoon and will linger through the rest of the day even into the overnight for some.

Scattered showers and storms will produce heavy rainfall and frequent lightning, mostly east of I-75. Rain should ease by midnight with the rest of the night looking peaceful. THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT: Warm with cloudy skies! Most of us stay dry, but can’t completely rule out a stray light shower. Temperatures fall into the low 70s by sunrise. MONDAY: Monday stays cloudy with warm temperatures peaking in the upper 80s/low 90s. A handful of light showers will be possible, but nothing meaningful for the drought is expected. The Florida-Georgia border counties will be the driest with a little more sun, helping drive those temperatures up into the 90s.

Severe threat is low, but cannot rule out an isolated case of small hail and damaging winds. Flooding will continue to be the main risk heading into the evening. Storm rainfall rates have been around 1-2″ so far today, a trend likely continuing tonight. Overall, storms ease up by 11pm. A few showers may linger into the overnight.

THIS EVENING/TONIGHT: Isolated to Scattered storms linger through the evening before steadily dying out overnight. Generally, severe weather is not expected, but isolated flooding cannot be ruled out, especially in urban communities. ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - TONIGHT: As of 8pm, thunderstorms are crowding along and east of I-75. Overall, storms will slowly work east heading through the evening. If you are west of I-75, an isolated shower or storm is possible, but most will stay dry. If you are east of I-75, showers and storms will continue through the evening, isolated flooding will be possible. Storm activity either settles or moves out of Southwest Georgia by midnight.
FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Flood Watch is in effect for parts locations along and west of the Flint River until 2am Wednesday. Widespread 2-3″ of rainfall may fall today in that area with isolated totals pushing closer to 5″. Flooding will be possible, especially in urban areas. Avoid flooded roadways and use extra caution while driving on wet roadways.

Another day of unsettled weather here in South Georgia for your Memorial Day. Daily rounds of afternoon storms remain in the forecast for the rest of the week. TONIGHT: We look to stay dry, an isolated shower or storm is possible for folks near the Alabama-Georgia border, and east of I-75. Albany will likely stay dry. Temperatures drop to around 70° waking up early on your Tuesday. Mild and Mostly Dry tonight. TUESDAY: Partly sunny skies take us through the first half of the day.

Scattered Showers and Storms may Bring Flooding Tonight
TONIGHT: As of early this evening (7pm), storms have congealed together stretching from Lowndes/Echols to Dougherty/Lee Counties. Fortunately, this likely means the severe threat is easing, so the large hail and damaging wind threat is likely letting up. Still, we could see a good deal of lightning and heavy rainfall, which could turn this into a flooding event. These storms are very slow moving, so moderate-heavy rain could last for hours.

TONIGHT: Unseasonably warm and humid tonight, won’t need the jacket if you are out late tonight or up early on Sunday. Overnight lows only in the upper 60s near 70 waking up Sunday morning. Some patchy fog will be likely potentially in the early morning hours as well, but it should clear up by mid morning. Lows Saturday Night/Sunday Morning SUNDAY: Get used to the heat! Sunday will have highs near 90 and high humidity. The Heat Index will likely be in the low 90s as well.

Arkansas reinstates tennis programs 20 days after announcing they'd be cut
The University of Arkansas announced Thursday that it will reinstate its men's and women's tennis programs effective immediately, less than three weeks after the Razorbacks discontinued the varsity sports following the 2026 season. The university credited short-term funding donations as the reason for reversing its decision.

Record Cool Temperatures to Kick off May?
SATURDAY RECAP: Today was a good day for South Georgia, much of the viewing area saw 1-2″ of rainfall with spotty areas pushing over 3 inches. Wettest day in Weeks, widespread 1-2" of Rainfall This will certainly help bring relief to the drought, but it will not erase it. To erase a drought, we need weeks of consistent beneficial rainfall, not just one good week. Good news is, another system is expected to bring rain to South Georgia later this week.

Best Chance for Rain in Weeks
TONIGHT/MONDAY: Mostly dry evening and overnight, but can’t completely rule out a stray shower. Temperatures will be warm in the 70s through much of the evening. Waking up on Monday temperatures will be hanging out in the low 60s. A cloudy start to Monday, but skies will clear heading into the afternoon as an easterly 10-15 MPH breeze brings in drier air. Highs will be in the low 80s. The “feels like temperature” will be cooler as humidity drops and even actual temperatures drop a degree or two.

Drought-busting rainfall is not expected, but a wetter pattern will give us some rain chances through much of the week. Some Chances to Get Wet Next Week! Temperatures will be well into the 50s by midnight with mid-upper 40s likely greeting you out the door in the morning. Need the Coat in the Morning! MONDAY: Dress in layers! Will need the extra layers in the morning, but will have to shed some heading into the afternoon. Sunny skies and a little breezy with highs in the upper 70s.
Pitiful Rainfall and a Cooler Start Next Week
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A Cold Front passes Sunday morning bringing very little rainfall. In addition to the lack of rainfall, the front will bring in drier air and gusty winds up to 25 mph. Those three things combined will bring more days of high fire risk on Sunday and Monday. It is highly discouraged to burn. Little rain in the forecast this week will cause an already horrible drought to worsen.
