1 Introduction Osteoporosis (OP) is the most common metabolic bone disease and is characterized by the loss of bone strength caused by an imbalance in bone homeostasis, leading to increased bone fragility and fracture risk (1). With an aging global population, the number of individuals affected by OP continually increases. Studies have shown that 10.2% of adults over 50 years of age have OP, with a likely projection of 13.6% by 2030 (2).
