Toward a test of medical AI superintelligence
Researchers urgently need a rigorous, task-based framework to define and measure medical AI ‘superintelligence’, because existing benchmarks are misleading and insufficient.
India’s poorest districts need more than funds—ADP 2018 shows what’s missing
A central motivation for ADP’s focus on education is the persistent disconnect between schooling inputs and learning outcomes. Research across developing countries shows that expanding inputs like more schools, teachers or better infrastructure do not necessarily lead to improvement in student achievement (Pritchett 2013).
Towards conversational diagnostic artificial intelligence - Nature
Abstract At the heart of medicine lies physician–patient dialogue, where skillful history-taking enables effective diagnosis, management and enduring trust1,2. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of diagnostic dialogue could increase accessibility and quality of care. However, approximating clinicians’ expertise is an outstanding challenge. Here we introduce AMIE (Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer), a large language model (LLM)-based AI system optimized for diagnostic dialogue.
Collaboration between clinicians and vision–language models in radiology report generation - Nature Medicine
Abstract Automated radiology report generation has the potential to improve patient care and reduce the workload of radiologists. However, the path toward real-world adoption has been stymied by the challenge of evaluating the clinical quality of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated reports. We build a state-of-the-art report generation system for chest radiographs, called Flamingo-CXR, and perform an expert evaluation of AI-generated reports by engaging a panel of board-certified radiologists.

Phasing out the line, ‘math is not for a girl’
Student 1 (boy, Class 7): I want to be a mathematics and science teacher. My favourite subject is mathematics. Student 2 (girl, Class 7): My favourite subject is history. I want to join the police force. These were responses from an informal discussion with school students in a village in Bihar’s Samastipur district a few months ago. The students who expressed their wishes were among the best performing students.

Getting the focus back on Early Childhood Education
The home environment and stimulation children receive within the household can be important contributory factors Early Childhood Education (ECE) is crucial to the overall development of children, with impacts on their learning and even earning capabilities throughout their lifetimes. Despite the importance of ECE, little has been said about the continuance of ECE delivery during the COVID-19 school closures, reminiscent of its status quo even prior to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Starting from Scratch | The Role of Parents, Teachers, and Tech in Early Childhood Education during COVID-19
Introduction and Context Early Childhood Education (ECE) has become increasingly recognized as crucial to the development of children (Karoly et al, 1998), with opportunities for cognitive development being most optimal up to the age of eight years (UNICEF, 2012). The literature emphasizes the crucial role of parental engagement in improving the learning capabilities of children (Lin, 2003; Nokali et al., 2010; Cunha et.

This debate has many facets.
How open-defecation free is India really?
Recently, many ministers have celebrated Swachh Bharat’s success in eradicating open defecation in more than 3.6 lakh villages through construction of millions of toilets. While these numbers are encouraging, the policy continues to deal with multiple challenges. Many of these villages continue to tackle the problem of poor-quality toilets and lack of behavioural change, which brings into question the “open defecation free” (ODF) status awarded to these villages.
5 Challenges Working Women Face to Fight For Jobs After Marriage
While this seems positive, sometimes more educated women are seen as being more useful in the home as they would be able to manage household responsibilities, and possibly educate their children better. Further, the crude marriage market in India may see dowry prices fall as a woman’s education level increases as long as it’s lower than the husband’s (though this is up to a certain level because the older you get, the higher the dowry price).
It Starts Early: How a Girl Child is Told to Mind ‘Ghar Ki Izzat’
Restrictions on what girls are and are not allowed to do start from a young age. They are told that public spaces are unsafe for them, and hence, they’d best stay at home. The reason that public spaces are so unsafe for women seem to be rooted in the very idea that a woman’s place is within the household, rather than the other way around.
