Somatic dance, ageing and wellbeing: Fluidity and Te Whare Tapa Whā
Abstract Seeking to disrupt narrowly defined understandings of health and wellness and to inform the ongoing development of community somatic dance classes in Aotearoa New Zealand, we discuss how we imagine and cultivate more expansive experiences of movement and wellbeing for women across the lifespan. Our previous ethnographic research highlighted the nuances of women’s embodied experiences within intergenerational Movement for Wellbeing classes (Barbour, Clark & Jeffrey, 2019).
Embodied ethnographies: Entanglements in the Anthropocene
1 BEGINNINGS In this article we explore the intersection of place, dance, and lens-based practices (photography and video), with reference to ongoing research we titled ‘Entanglements in the Anthropocence’.1 As researchers our backgrounds include ethnography, although foremost we describe ourselves as creative practice researchers: Rodrigo Hill as a lens-based artist/photographer and Karen Barbour as an embodied artist/dancer.
