This weekend I called one of our Iowa legislators, Norlin Mommsen, and told him my concerns for the proposed changes to Chapter 20. I told him he needed to vote "no" to these changes and that if he didn't, I would remember it at election time. I have since found out that apparently, in his opinion, this was threatening to him.

Procedural vote on debating fast-track legislation fails 53-45, with most Democrats in opposition
In the first test vote for fast-track trade legislation Tuesday, a crucial milestone in President Obama's effort to get the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership approved by lawmakers, the Senate voted 53-45 to end a filibuster. Sixty votes were needed. All but one Democrat—Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware—opposed the motion to proceed with debate on the bill. It was a major defeat for President Obama.

If this happens, the onus will be on the GOP-controlled Congress to do something. What I want to talk about is what happens if the Supreme Court rules in favor of taking away subsidies from people who purchased coverage through the federal exchange because their state did not setup an exchange. Bringing attention to insane state representatives always presents a conundrum. On one hand, there are so many of them that it can seem like spitting into the wind.
Talking about abortion and changing minds
This allows the forced birthers to exist in a separate reality, unaware of the women around them who have had abortions but who fear disapproval and so remain silent. It reinforces the stigma and the illusion of the type of woman and her reasons for aborting a pregnancy. Exposure to women who have had abortions may not cause those who oppose abortion to become more liberal, but it would influence them.
Glenn Greenwald Responds to Widespread Lies About Him (on Cato, Iraq War, and more)
If you're a regular reader of Glenn Greenwald's like I am, you may have occasionally come across some rather vicious lies about his character - that he's a right-wing libertarian and that he supported the Iraq War, among others. I don't know where these claims originated, but I've read plenty of blog posts and comments propagating them during the past few years - both on Daily Kos and elsewhere - and I had hoped for a long time that he would write a comprehensive post debunking them.
