At BDJ Team towers [which is just my desk really] I've been planning ahead for an autumn themed issue. As you may know, BDJ Team usually publishes two themed issues each year – check them out at https://www.nature.com/bdjteam/themedissues. This year, however, the volume of content flowing from idea or pitch to publication is so healthy and steady that I have decided to publish just one themed issue in 2026. The other remaining issues will contain the usual assortment of DCP-focused articles.

May has been quite the whirlwind for me, with my usual BDJ and BDJ Team duties and deadlines – but also a whole host of invitations to dental events, which is highly unusual. Months go by when the only events I go to are my daughter's assembly or enduring another chilly Sunday morning on the edge of a muddy football pitch overlooked by a flyover or airport (yes, one was directly in the Heathrow flight path).

This issue of BDJ Team has been something of a whirlwind, as the Art Editor and I – AKA the dream team – had to put it together while also taking a certain number of days off for family time and chocolate hunting over the Easter holidays. With the support of several reliable colleagues of course... and the wonderful authors, who had to check the proofs of their articles and approve them in record time. If you are reading this, it looks like we managed to pull it off just in time to go live.
