Venezuela's plan to restructure its sovereign and oil company debt could boost oil investor confidence, but the country's debt to China could be a hurdle to the final resolution of the matter, experts say. The exact amount Caracas owes Beijing is unclear, but estimates range from $10 billion to $15 billion, compared with Venezuela's estimated external debt burden of $150 billion to $200 billion.

Hormuz flows may remain in limbo even after conflict ends: experts

The war in Iran could end in a scenario in which control of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains in limbo, which could continue to depress traffic through the chokepoint longer term, experts said June 3. "There may be a gray zone where it's neither fully closed nor fully open," Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman, S&P Global, said during a webinar hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations.

Venezuela debt restructuring may take years, but progress could boost oil investor confidence

Venezuela's plans to restructure its sovereign and oil company debt could take years to come to fruition, but movement toward that goal could still boost investor confidence in the oil sector in the meantime, experts say. In the next nine to 12 months, financial markets are likely to come up with creative solutions to start to restructure Venezuela's debt and improve the oil sector's perception of the country's risk, said John Haley, a partner at the law firm Nelson Mullins.
