When Miami hosts the G20 Summit this December with an agenda focused on “pioneering new technologies,” the real economic survival question won’t be about AI chips or trade policy. It will be whether countries have built the infrastructure to compete at all. That infrastructure isn’t roads or ports, but human cognitive and emotional capacity. This is the argument an unlikely band of economists, neuroscientists, and business leaders are making with increasing urgency and success.

Posted Friday, February 6, 2026 9:01 am I worked at The Post from May 2017 to Dec. 2023 as the head of the Opinions video unit and as a columnist covering mental health and society. The messages I’m receiving from friends still there contain the words, “trauma,” “whiplash,” “sad” and “shaken.” I’ve heard similar sentiments from Voice of America journalists who were booted from their newsroom when the Trump administration announced it was shutting down the international broadcaster last year.
