KAT and D'Lo: How the Breaking Down their Offensive Strengths and Examining their Future Partnership — A Wolf Among Wolves
We all know the story of Gersson Rosas’ pursuit, and eventual acquisition, of D’Angelo Russell. The long-awaited pairing of Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell had been finally realized, only to be dismembered in a matter of days when Towns suffered a wrist injury. His season was put on hold, leaving Russell as the lone star to guide the team. Only three games since his acquisition, Russell became the captain of a sinking ship.

Sylvia Fowles' 2017 Finals Grit Needed Now More Than Ever
Katie Davidson June 24, 2020 Sylvia Fowles will go down as the best center the WNBA has ever seen when she retires. And when that day comes, we’ll turn to Fowles’ 2017 Game 5 Finals game against the Los Angeles Sparks. Lynx fans will be able to re-watch that Oct. 4, 2017, game on Thursday, June 25, on Fox Sports North at 7 p.m. CT., but fans more than likely already have Fowles’ stat line from that game memorized.
Don't Forget The Significance Of A 28-Win Season
Katie Davidson June 11, 2020 It’s easy to overlook some of the Lynx’s many accomplishments. Heck, even head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve did so after the Lynx won their 28th game of the 2016 season on Sept. 17 and set a new franchise record for most wins in a single season. In the moment, after her team’s 95-87 win over the Atlanta Dream, Reeve was of course preparing for the upcoming playoffs. “It will be busy,” said Reeve, referring to her team’s preparation for the playoffs.
Remember When The Lynx Made A Blowout Win A Classic Game?
Katie Davidson May 25, 2020 When we think of classic basketball games, we often think of the nail-biters, the games where the tension in the arena somehow makes its way into our living rooms. We think of the games whose fates are determined in the final milliseconds and by several slo-mo replays that reveal whether or not that final shot was a game-winner or a missed opportunity. Blowout games rarely make the cut, and if they do, they have to be monumental. Does a 59-point win do the trick?
Don't Forget Moore's 40-Point Game When Recalling Great Lynx Moments
Katie Davidson May 19, 2020 When you have a franchise as prized as the Minnesota Lynx, narrowing down the team’s most memorable games is no easy task. And when a basketball legend who’s as decorated as Maya Moore belongs to that franchise, the task becomes much more challenging. But in an attempt to fill our sports void during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fox Sports North has committed to the challenge of picking eight classic Lynx games that will air through Thursday, June 25.
The Fly in the Lakers’ Ointment: A Troy Hudson Tribute — A Wolf Among Wolves
Wednesday, April 14, 2004 is one of the greatest regular season days the Minnesota Timberwolves have ever had.
My Unconditional, Unapologetic Love for Lance Stephenson
I used to hate LeBron James. I am not proud of this part of me. ‘LeBron James is an asshole’ certainly isn’t the best opinion of the countless basketball opinions I’ve held in my thousands of hours with the sport. I wasn’t the only 22-year-old idiot in the world who held such an opinion in the summer of 2010 after LeBron made ‘The Decision’ to leave the Cavaliers and his native Cleveland to form a ‘Super Team’ with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the Miami Heat.
Player Or Coach, Katie Smith Will Always Be A Lynx Legend
Katie Davidson May 3, 2020 The Lynx players of the 2010s are often the players we think of when reflecting on Minnesota’s basketball greats. And rightfully so — they’ve done quite a bit for the sport in our state.
Erica Ogwumike Is Much More Than Just The Youngest Ogwumike Sister
Katie Davidson April 23, 2020 Erica Ogwumike may have first landed on your radar because of her older sisters, Chiney and Nneka. Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve first knew Erica as the little sister who tagged along for her older sisters’ WNBA games and immersed herself in the league at a young age.
Maya Moore Has Exceeded Expectations Set On 2011 Draft Night
Selecting the No. 1 overall pick of a draft carries weight. Winning the lottery is of course what every team looking to rebuild and embark on a new era hopes for, but the pressure to secure your team’s missing piece is consequential. Make the right selection and your team could be headed for greatness. But if you strike out, a damaging “what if” will be attached to your franchise for years and years to come. There have been 24 WNBA drafts and therefore 24 No. 1 overall picks.
Brunson's Retirement Launches Next Chapter Of Her Lynx Career
Katie Davidson February 11, 2020 Throughout her 15-year career, Rebekkah Brunson tried to live by one rule: never cheat the game of basketball. She succeeded. For a decade and a half, Brunson defined what it meant to play like a champion. Brunson was always part of the main core of Lynx players that brought so much notoriety to the franchise, but she wasn’t always the main feature on Lynx highlight reels.
Celebrate NGWSD By Welcoming Girls Into The World Of Sports
Katie Davidson February 5, 2020 I was one of those kids who tried every sport growing up. I went out for soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, track, I even threw on the ballet and tap shoes for a few years. But even as a child, there was something about basketball that separated itself from my other activities. Maybe it was the game’s accessibility; with just a hoop and a ball, basketball was always there.
Shellfish subsidies along the Pacific coast of North America
Marine subsidies Marine subsidies occur when nutrients are transferred from marine to terrestrial ecosystems, anywhere along the 594 000 km of global coastline (Hammond 1990). These subsidies can take the form of seabird guano (Sánchez‐Piñero and Polis 2000), marine mammal carcasses (Polis and Hurd 1996), spawning fishes (Fox et al. 2015, Reimchen 2018) or macroalgae deposition (Spiller et al. 2010).
Roster Review | Sylvia Fowles
Katie Davidson December 18, 2019 C | 6’6, 227 lbs 2019 season: 34 games, 29.5 MPG, 13.6 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.5 APG, 58.8 FG%, 70.7 FT% We saw a slight decrease in Sylvia Fowles’ points and rebounds totals in the 2019 season, but Fowles’ 2019 success isn’t best defined by her individual stats.
The 2010s: Minnesota Lynx all-decade team, with a twist
No WNBA team — or Minnesota professional sports team — had a decade like the Lynx. While the Timberwolves, Twins, Vikings and Wild all failed to conquer the curse Minnesota sports fans have grumbled about for years, the Lynx kept Minnesota relevant by winning four championships and making nine straight playoff appearances from 2011 on. The hiring of Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve helped turn the franchise around in 2010, when the team traded for Lindsay Whalen.
Where the Lynx stand: Napheesa Collier recasts the franchise’s path to the future
It was difficult to determine what Friday’s end-of-season press conference at Mayo Clinic Square would bring. Less than 48 hours before, the Lynx had lost their single-elimination playoff game to Seattle and were within five points of advancing to the second round despite only earning one point from their starting backcourt players midway through the fourth quarter. Would the players sit atop the stage and let Wednesday’s loss alter their opinion on the entire season?
What has to go right for the Lynx to make a run in the WNBA playoffs
Throughout the ups and downs of the Lynx’s 18-16 regular season — a season in which the unknowns outweighed the familiar by twofold — at least one thing hasn’t changed: head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve believing in her team’s commitment in the face of so much turnover. “I think I’m most proud of the buy-in that I have felt from Day 1,” Reeve said in August before the Lynx’s regular-season home finale.
Napheesa Collier’s case to win Rookie of the Year, as Seimone Augustus sees it
Napheesa Collier has gained supporters as she’s defended some of the WNBA’s best players, earned a bid to the 2019 All-Star Game and played a crucial role in earning the Lynx’s ninth-straight playoff appearance. Those supporters will spout out their praise for Collier at any chance they get — in All-Star voting, while at Target Center or in online debates about who should be named this season’s Rookie of the Year.
Where will the Lynx end up? Breaking down the final games of the playoff push
The Lynx had a chance to move up to sixth place in the standings in their Sunday game against the Seattle Storm, who held a half-game lead over Minnesota before the night’s tip-off. But the Lynx failed to score until the 4:57 mark of the first quarter, committed seven turnovers in the opening 10 minutes and then still rallied to make it a game for the taking before ultimately losing. “I thought Seattle played well,” head coach Cheryl Reeve told reporters after her team’s 82-74 loss.
Stating the cases: Napheesa Collier vs. Arike Ogunbowale for WNBA Rookie of the Year
Any professional athlete knows that being drafted is just the beginning. The challenges of transitioning from college to the pros, getting a feel for your opponents and finding your place on your new team make up the real test for first-year players. As we approach the final month of the WNBA season, two rookies have made it all look easier than their peers.
Sylvia Fowles, Odyssey Sims and a fast turn from rivals to All-Star teammates
Four months ago, Sylvia Fowles and Odyssey Sims’ relationship was best defined by the Lynx and Sparks’ playoff rivalry that featured back-to-back Finals matchups between the two teams. Fowles, who describes herself as a team-oriented player who rarely befriends players on other teams, said she didn’t know Sims well before she came to Minnesota this past offseason. But even when they were duking it out against each other on the court, Fowles didn’t carry any disdain for Sims.
The ‘natural’: How Napheesa Collier’s steady style made her an All-Star rookie
The heartbreak of a career-ending loss might have caused some players to sink to the floor in tears, but when the final buzzer sounded on Napheesa Collier’s college basketball career at the end of a five-point, Final Four loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on April 5, she walked toward her team’s bench, got in line to shake hands with her opponents, took out her mouth guard and showed little emotion.
‘Faith in what we’ve built’: How the re-tooled Lynx found a new winning recipe
Just 50 days after being named to the Lynx’s starting lineup for the first time, Danielle Robinson was reminded that her second season in Minnesota was halfway over. Robinson, channeling her inner Minnesotan, responded with, “Golly.” Robinson’s reaction could stem from the notion that, in some ways, the 2019 Lynx have barely had time to catch their breath.
As injuries pile up, Lynx shuffle up the roster in search of a spark
Before it even began, the 2019 WNBA season was riddled with injuries that seemed to affect the makeup of all 12 of the league’s teams. The Minnesota Lynx were no exception. Perennial All-Star Seimone Augustus — who has yet to play a game for the Lynx this season — is still recovering from her May 30 knee surgery, and Jessica Shepard will spend the remainder of her rookie season sidelined as she rehabs from ACL surgery. But the basketball gods didn’t stop there.
After a discouraging year, Lexie Brown has found a family again with the Lynx
As quickly as she can roll off a screen, set her feet and pop a 3-pointer in front of a defender’s face, Lexie Brown can tell you exactly where she was when she was traded to the Lynx. The next chapter of the former Connecticut Sun player’s WNBA career began April 10 while she was at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. It was the night of the 2019 WNBA Draft, but Brown had agreed to spend her night taking her younger brother to an Atlanta Hawks game. It was there that Brown got the game-changing news.
Where the Lynx stand after an up-and-down first quarter of the season
The Lynx’s pregame routine rarely varies. All players make their way to the court at least 90 minutes before game time. For home games, Damiris Dantas uses an electric foam roller to loosen her muscles on the baseline. Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus force laughter out of their teammates with their dance moves. Odyssey Sims greets an opponent with a friendliness that vanishes once the game begins.
‘Everybody’s got to be ready’: What Jessica Shepard’s injury means for the Lynx
As she has all season long, Jessica Shepard concluded her Monday practice with the Lynx by joining her team’s routine end-of-session huddle at the Mayo Clinic Square facility, but this time she did so by hobbling on crutches to center court. Shepard’s rookie WNBA season took an unexpected twist on Saturday when the 6-foot-3 forward went up for a lay-in attempt, landed awkwardly and tore the ACL in her right knee in the Lynx’s game against the Sparks.
The crowning honor for Lindsay Whalen's brilliant Lynx career
On a rare 90-degree Saturday in Minnesota, nearly 9,000 fans gathered at Target Center to commemorate Lindsay Whalen, and when it was time for the Minnesota-born point guard to comment on her extensive career, the microphone stayed in her hands for less than a minute. Showing little expression, Whalen addressed her fans and shared her thanks for the retired number sent up to the rafters to cap a phenomenal career, then quickly directed the spotlight elsewhere.
The winning DNA of Lynx rookies Napheesa Collier and Jessica Shepard
Jessica Shepard grew up an hour away from Lincoln, Neb., dreaming of the day she’d be able to rock the Cornhusker red and white while playing the game she was introduced to at the age of 3 and soon fell in love with. Shepard’s vision became a reality in 2015 but took a detour in 2017 when she decided to transfer to the University of Notre Dame to further develop her basketball skills.
It’s the end of practice, and Cheryl Reeve’s instruction for Danielle Robinson is to “execute.” Reeve shouts it as her players huddle before the Lynx’s starting lineup faces off with the team’s male practice squad in a last-second-shot simulation. Robinson returns from the sideline, heads to the top of the key and dribbles between her legs while looking for an open teammate.
Lynx 2019 preview: And so begins a new era for a team reimagining its identity
Since the beginning training camp, Minnesota Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve has expected the inevitable questions that have been looming for months. How has your team responded to not having Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen around? How have your veterans and rookies responded to one another? What will the new era of the Lynx franchise bring? Though repetitive, the questions are warranted.
