Early adult binge drinking has lasting impact on aging brain in mice

Binge drinking in early adults can lead to long-lasting and potentially permanent dysregulation in the brain, according to a new study in mice, led by researchers at Penn State. They found that neurons, cells that transmit information in the brain via electrical and chemical signals, showed changes following binge drinking were similar in many ways to those seen with cognitive decline.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On Oct. 29, MIT astrophysicist and planetary scientist Sara Seager presented the joint Science Achievement Graduate Fellows-Russell Marker Lecture in Astronomy and Astrophysics, titled “Exoplanets and the Search for Life Beyond Earth.” “The line between mainstream research and crazy is constantly shifting,” she said. “People thought the entire field was going to a dead end. ... Now it is a vibrant field with thousands of exoplanets discovered.”

Physics professor elected as a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy

Mueller Professor in Physics and Holder of the Eberly Family Chair in Physics, has been elected a Foreign Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy. Foreign fellows, elected annually, do not live in India and are renowned for their contributions to science and have contributed or can contribute to the progress of science in India.
