PHOENIX — A company accused of unlawfully selling insurance plans to retired first responders and their families tells the 12News I-Team it will no longer offer health care coverage as of August 31. The decision follows a “cease and desist” order from the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions on July 16. The insurance regulators alleged the company was not a licensed insurance company and was failing to properly provide coverage for its members.

The National Fraternal Order of Police ‘terminated’ agreement with Thin Blue Line Benefits Original

PHOENIX — The National Fraternal Order of Police, with more than 370,000 members nationwide, said it no longer works with Thin Blue Line Benefits. Thin Blue Line is a health care company based in Texas that promised to sell insurance to retired police officers, firefighters, and their families. The company paid the NFOP to use its logo as they marketed insurance plans to thousands of retired first responders and family members across the country, according to NFOP General Counsel Larry James.

PHOENIX — Thin Blue Line Benefits Association said its mission was to serve retired police, firefighters and their families. It promised to provide “gap coverage” for retirees too young to qualify for Medicare. Its members thought they were buying health insurance. They paid monthly premiums, had established deductibles and even had a member benefits card. But on paper, Thin Blue Line said it wasn’t an insurance company.
