Kat Kourbeti is a speculative fiction writer, film/culture critic, and podcaster based in London, UK. She is a Hugo and British Fantasy Award-winning senior podcast editor at Strange Horizons magazine, and a narrator for other speculative short fiction podcasts.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Blogging for film/TV and nerd culture website Flickering Myth.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I asked Santa for one when I was seven. Coincidentally, that was also the Christmas I found out Santa isn't real.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Voice recorder on my phone for interviews on the go. Zencastr for remote interviews and podcast recordings. Audacity for podcast editing.

Hugo Award

2024 - Best Semiprozine (with Strange Horizons)

The Hugo Award for Best Semiprozine is given each year to a periodical publication related to science fiction or fantasy that meets several criteria having to do with the number of issues published and who, if anyone, receives payment. The award was first presented in 1984, and has been given annually since, though the qualifying criteria have changed. Awards were once also given out for professional magazines in the professional magazine category, and are still awarded for fan magazines in the fanzine category.
