Austin ISD police chief injured after motorcycle crash while on duty

Austin Independent School District Police Chief Wayne Sneed was injured in a motorcycle accident while participating in an "official motorcade operation" around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the Austin Police Department said. Officials said two police motorcycles were involved in the collision, which occurred near U.S. 290 westbound and the MoPac service road ramp near Southwest Parkway. Sneed was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

After 53 years in Travis County, Margaret Gómez retires with a call to learn from one another

Margaret Gómez, the longest-serving Travis County commissioner in history, is retiring early. She will continue her post overseeing Precinct 4 until June 11, when George Morales, who won the Democratic primary election for the seat last month, will be appointed to take over, Gómez said. Gómez, 81, said she is ready to step down after serving as a Travis County employee for nearly 53 years.

George Morales takes early lead for Travis County Precinct 4 Commissioner

Early voting results put George Morales in a comfortable lead over Susanna Ledesma-Woodyfor Travis County Precinct 4 Commissioner. The two local Democrats are vying for the commissioners court seat after a close race in March. No Republican candidates ran for the position. The winner will be the first new commissioner representing Precinct 4, which covers a large chunk of South and Southeast Travis County, in over three decades.
