Morpho-functional innovations in Shibantan fossils fuel Ediacaran frond debates
Abstract The Ediacara biota represents Earth’s earliest complex macroscopic organisms, but their biology and ecology remain poorly understood. Here we report Dengyingia pennata gen. et sp. nov., an exceptionally preserved frondose fossil from the late Ediacaran ( ~550–543 Ma) Shibantan limestone of South China.

Ordovician marine Charophyceae and insights into land plant derivations - Nature Plants
Abstract The emergence of land plants was a pivotal development in Earth history. It has been postulated that the evolutionary transition from freshwater streptophyte algae to land plants, or the canalization of plant meiosis, was completed during the Middle Ordovician (~460 Ma). However, the absence of undisputed streptophyte algal fossils (for example, Charophyceae) earlier than the late Silurian (~425 Ma) has obscured this link between streptophyte algae and land plants.

A shallow-water oxygen minimum zone in an oligotrophic Tonian basin - Nature Communications
Abstract The Tonian Period (1000–720 Ma) bore witness to the transition from a prokaryote-dominated marine ecosystem to one characterized by the proliferation of eukaryotes. This fundamental shift has generally been attributed to evolving marine redox states. Here, we present sedimentological and geochemical analyses of the early Tonian Huainan, Feishui, and Huaibei groups in the Xuhuai basin of the North China craton.

A late-Ediacaran crown-group sponge animal - Nature
Abstract Sponges are the most basal metazoan phylum1 and may have played important roles in modulating the redox architecture of Neoproterozoic oceans2. Although molecular clocks predict that sponges diverged in the Neoproterozoic era3,4, their fossils have not been unequivocally demonstrated before the Cambrian period5,6,7,8, possibly because Precambrian sponges were aspiculate and non-biomineralized9. Here we describe a late-Ediacaran fossil, Helicolocellus cantori gen. et sp.

Therapeutic Approach Targeting Gut Microbiome in Gastrointestinal Infectious Diseases
1. Introduction The human gastrointestinal tract hosts trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, archaea, protozoa, and viruses, the entire cluster of which is the human gut microbiota. The knowledge that microbes exist in the gut dates back centuries, but it is only in the last two decades that we have been able to depict the world of microbes inside our gastrointestinal tract and understand the immense influence that it has on the homeostasis and development of the host.
Prospect of Mesenchymal Stem-Cell-Conditioned Medium in the Treatment of Acute Pancreatitis: A Systematic Review
1. Introduction Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a gastrointestinal inflammatory disease characterized by injury to acinar cells and inflammation in the pancreatic tissue. It is the most common cause of hospital stays among gastrointestinal diseases [1,2]. Clinical manifestations of AP range from mild forms (80–85% of cases) to severe forms (15–20% of cases) [1,2,3].
Tonian carbonaceous compressions indicate that Horodyskia is one of the oldest multicellular and coenocytic macro-organisms - Communications Biology
Abstract Macrofossils with unambiguous biogenic origin and predating the one-billion-year-old multicellular fossils Bangiomorpha and Proterocladus interpreted as crown-group eukaryotes are quite rare. Horodyskia is one of these few macrofossils, and it extends from the early Mesoproterozoic Era to the terminal Ediacaran Period.
The Role of a Multidisciplinary Team in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcomas: A Single-Center Experience
Abstract : Bone and soft tissue sarcomas with complex and varied clinical, imaging, and pathological characteristics cannot be diagnosed and treated by a single discipline, as each discipline has some limitations. This study aimed to explore the role of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas over the past four consecutive years.
Nitrogen-Fixing Heterocystous Cyanobacteria in the Tonian Period
Cell volume was estimated assuming cylindrical or spherical cell shapes. Volume of cylindrical cell = ? × (width/2)2 × length. Volume of spherical cell = (4/3) × ? × (width/2)3. Unless otherwise noted in Table S2x Download (.91 MB ) Document S1. Figure S1 and Tables S1 and S2Table S2, minimum values of width and length were used for calculation of minimum volumes, whereas maximum values of width and length were used for calculation of maximum volumes.
