Dreams became reality for several baseball players with ties to Southeast Georgia as the conclusion of the 2026 MLB Draft ushered in the next chapter of their careers. Whether selected during the draft or signing professional contracts shortly afterward, these former local standouts are now one step closer to reaching Major League Baseball after years of development at the high school and collegiate levels. “WHO ARE WE? SLUGGERS! WHO ARE WE?" Since 2019, that chant echoed through the air before they took the field. The Sluggers have been a community staple and have helped numerous kids develop their skills on the diamond and off of it in their schools and neighborhoods. Brad Sheffield and Bobby Lewis founded the team in 2019 with a vision of giving the kids in Brooklet and surrounding areas the chance to play travel baseball locally.

Grice Connect has confirmed that Statesboro High School has dismissed boys basketball head coach Keith LeGree following six seasons leading his alma mater, according to multiple sources. LeGree has been offered the opportunity to remain at the school as in his teaching position.
