Modern Land & Development, LLC The Elko County Planning Commission has approved a conditional use permit for a private ski resort in the Ruby Mountains. The nearly 2,300-acre area would be located off Pleasant Valley Road and borders the Spring Creek Association Campground along with previously zoned Open Space (OS) Districts and National Forest Lands.

Wooster High alum and cyclist Greg LeMond, the only American to win the Tour de France three times, received a Congressional Gold Medal on Wednesday. It's the highest civilian honor Congress can bestow on par with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Congress approved the medal in 2020, but the pandemic forced a delay in awarding it. “It is the highest honor that we can bestow in this institution," Republican U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said.

Avalon Geothermal has permanently discontinued service to some customers in Reno and now the company plans to hold an informal public meeting on the change. The City says it was notified by Avalon that it would shut off power to about 100 homes near Manzanita Lane, earlier this month. Because of this, the City says Avalon will not serve the newly opened Moana Springs Community Aquatics and Fitness Center, but it says the facility will continue using the natural gas infrastructure in place.
