"When I first heard it, I thought 'Oh, no, doomsday!' Like most people," said Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland. But then he began thinking of the impracticality of it all. "Who is he going to tariff? I don't understand that part," he said. "Is it the distribution company?" he asks. "Any money they make in the States, they have to tariff?, Is it the financiers of the film?" All this while his phone was ringing off the hook, and the emails were flooding his inbox.

The Green Party Candidate in Kelowna learned along with the rest of us, that her party was getting the boot from the national leader's debates. And it is a tough pill to swallow. Catriona Wright is the candidate for the Greens in the Kelowna riding, and we spoke to her just hours after the news came out. "It does feel disappointing," she said.

Central Okanagan teachers will probably avoid layoffs, but those retiring may not be replaced. Central Okanagan Teachers Association president Susan Bauhart, has spent the weekend looking at the numbers. "It just came out Friday," she said. "I don't have all the details yet." But her early take may be of some comfort to teachers and the school communities that value them.
