Serial Summits - Pap of Glencoe, Scotland's Best Summit View?
Is there one particular hill you find yourself drawn to over and over? For Keri Wallace The Pap is the shape of home on the skyline: A hill running time trial, a family excursion, a snowy scamper, a sunrise scurry - but somehow, she says, it never gets any easier. Dense cloud is concealing the shapely summit and a damp, cold wind is whipping through the col when I spot it – the patch of white quartzite rocks on the path that marks the sharp left turn.

I was recently asked an interesting question that left me a little stumped.

Ideally suited to big running adventures, mountain marathons and long-distance fast-hiking missions, it is available in both 20L and 30L volumes. The Veil pack would also suit day walkers keen to enjoy a running-style close fit, and convenient features such as shoulder pockets. But perhaps its biggest selling point is that it is waterproof.

My First Mountain: Full Circle on Ben Nevis
Tragedy on a Ben Nevis Three Peaks attempt led to an epiphany for Keri Wallace: a realisation that life is now, and that she could make the mountains a huge part of her own. It wasn't a nervous breakdown, but "the pieces falling into place"... Striding out, breaking away, and then having to wait for everyone to catch up: I tackled the mountain path with the youthful exuberance of someone with all the fitness but none of the gear or idea. I was exhilarated and inexperienced in equal measure.

UKH Articles - Skill Series: Children
Wild camping is one of the most enjoyable things you can do in the hills. A wholesome, immersive experience, it enables you to get up close and personal with the places that you love, without - let's hope - impacting them in the process. Introducing kids to these rewards is a pleasure in itself, and should hopefully lay the ground for their own passion for the hills. But combine tents, weather, midges and small people, and it's not always plain sailing.

10 of the best one-man tents
There are lots of running activities for which a good lightweight one-man tent is invaluable. Think: mountain marathons, fast-packing journeys, self-supported multi-day challenges, long-distance FKT attempts and outdoor festival camping. A one-man tent can also be handy when crewing and supporting fellow runners in remote locations.
Can walking make you a better runner?
Does walking help our running? Yes! And here’s why. Walking is primarily a Zone 1-2 activity. This means it is a very low-intensity activity which can be maintained without fatigue for multiple hours. It trains the body to gradually endure more of the same, which makes it easier for us to go faster at a low intensity. It’s recommended that runners spend a large amount of their training (up to 80% for endurance race runners) in this zone.

For my husband Ben and I, summer holidays had always been about big mountains, big routes and big days. Today there are two small people in the mix and the objectives have become distinctly smaller too - even as the effort required has increased.

8 ways to smash the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline
With 52km of technical mountain running and a whopping 4,750m of ascent, the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline is not for the faint-hearted. It takes place as part of the Salomon Skyline Scotland weekend (this year held on September 20-22), which involves four epic skyraces, and is notorious for its highly technical course – think towering mountain ridges and exposed Grade 3 scrambling. Only highly experienced runners can take part, all of whom must be strictly vetted.
