This simple arbor with a two-person bench invites you to sit a spell, rest a beverage on one of the wide arms, and lean back with a good book or a cozy conversation with a companion. Rather than dominate the landscape, it’s sized to sit comfortably within it, providing a perfect perch to soak in some sun or shade and a few birdsongs. Build the arbor as five subassemblies that you then put together on-site: two side assemblies, the seat, the seat back, and trellis.
Rest easy; this simple-to-build case won’t cause you any sleepless nights. Sturdy solid-wood legs and aprons cover the edges of the plywood used for the sides, while solid-wood edging hides the plywood top. Templates ensure you shape the scalloped aprons perfectly. And the simple joinery for the spacious drawers is cut on the tablesaw. FIRST, CHOOSE SIDES 1 From ¾" cherry plywood, cut the side panels (A) to size [Drawing 1]. 2 From solid cherry, cut the side aprons (B) and front apron (C) to size.
