Syracuse, N.Y. — Overall private sector employment in the Syracuse metro area was down slightly in April when compared with a year earlier, according to state data. The area’s private sector job count in April was 258,200, down 0.42% from April 2025. That’s a difference of about 1,100 jobs. The overall job sectors with the most growth in Syracuse in April included leisure and hospitality, state government and state government educational services.
