'We can’t lose anybody': Gov. DeWine says the state needs more employees

PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 3.4% in July, the lowest rate the state has recorded in 22 months, according to state employment data. The decline comes as Ohio has climbed to the top of CNBC’s 2026 rankings of America’s Top States for Business — a first for the state. CNBC credited Ohio’s infrastructure and business costs, while ranking the state 35th for workforce, underscoring one of the challenges facing the next governor.

Fairfield County manufacturer to build welding training center, add 210 jobs with $5M state tax incentive

A Fairfield County manufacturer whose products support data centers, oil and gas operations and the nuclear-power industry is receiving $5 million in state tax incentives as it prepares to expand and hire hundreds of workers. The Westerman Companies, a 117-year-old metal manufacturing business with operations in Bremen and Hebron, plans to add 210 jobs over the next five years.
