Every time one coronavirus variant fades, another one seems to appear. This time, it’s BA.2, an omicron subvariant that is sweeping Europe and by the middle of March accounted for approximately 30 percent of virus cases in the U.S., according to health officials. By the end of March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed it the dominant strain in the country.
