About 40 residents and a dozen senior police officers attended a community safety forum at Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club last night, 21 July, hosted by Wakehurst MP Michael Regan alongside Police Area Commander Superintendent John Duncan. Youth crime and a perceived sense of impunity among young offenders emerged as the dominant themes of the evening. Several community members said they felt young people believed they could act without real consequences.

Northern Beaches Council will move all Beach Parking Permits to a digital system from this week, replacing physical stickers with an online portal called vPermit. The stickers, which until now have been applied to the windscreen of one’s vehicle, allow free parking across most beach and park areas in the Local Government Area. The Northern Beaches will have shark-spotting drone coverage every day from dawn to dusk 365 days a year from Wednesday as part of a state response to more frequent shark bites. The government confirmed yesterday it will invest an additional $34 million in drone technology, harnessing artificial intelligence and emerging systems, in a major scale-up of coverage across Sydney beaches and along the NSW coast.
