Groton — An exhibit at the Groton Public Library tells the story of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, for the 25th anniversary and encourages residents to reflect on their own memories from that day. The posters on display, "September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World," were created by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and describe the attacks and the aftermath, including rescue and recovery efforts, wars, health impacts, acts of service, rebuilding, grieving and solidarity.

Peace pole in downtown Mystic stands as 'visible sign of peace' | The Day

Mystic — In downtown Mystic, a new monument stands as a sign of peace. The 8-foot-tall peace pole on the patio of the Union Baptist Church on High Street says “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages. “It’s just a simple post, with a simple message, but I think if it encourages just one person to choose peace over anger, understanding over division, or love over fear, then it’s accomplished its goal,” said Tim DeVeau, chairman of the building and facilities team at the church.

Officials: Parking garage not workable on Groton side of Mystic | The Day

Editor's Note: This story, part of an ongoing series, explores the feasibility of a parking garage on the Groton side of Mystic. Mystic — In the 1930s, artists purchased a property along the Mystic River and built a museum that is today called the Mystic Museum of Art. The museum's Director of Operations Cara Lopilato said the property, next door to the Power House, which had a factory across the street, was used as a dump. She said the existing parking lot sits on what once was a cove.
