Groton — Outside the city's Municipal Building, rain gardens feature a variety of plants and yellow, red and purple flowers. The bowl-shaped gardens help capture stormwater runoff, with the plants' roots absorbing water. The city is piloting rain gardens in three locations: in the parking lot outside the Municipal Building on Meridian St., at Washington Park and at the entrance of Birch Plain Creek off Thomas Road.

Groton — With the town's updated Plan of Conservation and Development, the Planning and Zoning Commission has struck a compromise in providing guidance for planning for future housing density. The new 10-year planning document keeps the housing density guidelines the same as the town's 2016 plan, but identifies four areas where it might be appropriate to increase housing density, said Deputy Director of Planning & Development Deb Jones.
