What was your first job as a journalist?

My journey in journalism kickstarted with a role as a reporter for "Colorado Kids," which was the dedicated kids' section of The Denver Post. I started this role in 4th grade, initially contributing book reviews and event recaps. As progressed, I found myself diving into more substantial tasks like conducting author interviews and covering conferences. Along the way, I had the incredible opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with notable personalities including Marc Brown, R.L. Stine, Cynthia Lord, and even Temple Grandin.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist embodies the art of both attentive listening and storytelling. This involves a genuine openness to absorbing the words and narratives of others. It's a commitment to championing authenticity while sharing stories. At its core, journalism is about disseminating truth and elevating awareness, ultimately empowering others with a deeper understanding of the world that surrounds them.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I employ an array of tools, ranging from recorders to the versatile Adobe Creative Suite, enabling me to craft content that seamlessly transcends different mediums including print, radio, websites, and beyond. To ensure a holistic approach, I leverage software like Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Figma, Audacity, Descript, and more. This meticulous attention to detail empowers me to curate content that not only captivates readers through text but also resonates visually, offering a well-rounded and engaging experience.
