9 injured in shooting outside Reign Event Center in Minneapolis

Minneapolis police are investigating a shooting that injured nine people early Sunday morning outside a nightclub in the city’s Uptown area. According to the Minneapolis Police Department, a large group was gathered outside outside Reign Event Center at 29th and Hennepin avenues when a fight escalated to gunfire just before 12:30 a.m., injuring several people. Police found four people wounded at the scene. Five other victims showed up at hospitals around Minneapolis.

Minneapolis City Council rejects drones-as-first-responder pilot, citing ties to Israel, ICE

The Minneapolis City Council on Thursday rejected a no-cost drones-as-first-responder pilot program after Council Vice President Jamal Osman, a co-sponsor of the legislation, changed course to cast the deciding “no” vote. The 75-day trial with California-based Skydio, Inc. would have stationed drones at Minneapolis Fire Station 14 on the city’s Northside.

Shireen Gandhi retires from DHS 2 months after stepping down as commissioner

Shireen Gandhi, the former commissioner of Minnesota’s Department of Human Services, has resigned from the agency, effective Tuesday, a department spokesperson said. In a message to DHS staff last week, Temporary DHS Commissioner John Connolly thanked Gandhi for her “remarkable leadership” and said DHS is “a stronger agency because of her service.” Still, Gandhi faced intense scrutiny over DHS’s handling of fraud as the issue snowballed into a national spectacle.
