let’s see if i become a writer before the rapture hits he/him

Kyle Kizu’s Biography

I'm a recent film studies graduate of UC Berkeley. I started writing about film in my freshman year when I started my own movie blog. Quickly, that developed into a passion, as a year later, I joined the school newspaper, The Daily Californian, as an arts & entertainment reporter. That summer, I interned with IndieWire, writing articles almost daily and assisting the staff with various projects. I returned to school and took on the film beat for the Daily Cal, before being hired as the arts & entertainment editor for the following semester. That experience led to me landing an editorial internship with The Hollywood Reporter. My main duties were to assist senior writers with investigative stories, as well as to assist the rest of the staff with transcribing, fact-checking, and more. But I did get to both cover a red carpet premiere as well as work with the Heat Vision blog editor to write two stories.

Since then, I've been attempting to both find and carve a space for myself in writing. I started my own website, movieminis.com, and ran that for a year, with contributions from writers I got to know at UC Berkeley. I also wrote for the online film magazine Film Inquiry. Now, I'm working as a freelancer, with bylines in The Hollywood Reporter, Polygon, Fandor, and Crooked Marquee. I've been approved by Rotten Tomatoes as a critic.

I'm hoping to continue to learn and grow in the field of entertainment journalism, and I'm excited about future opportunities
