ELYRIA TWP. — The largest investment ever made in Elyria Township officially celebrated its opening Tuesday. Carvana is now operating out of the old Spiegelberg Orchards inside the township off Middle Ridge Road. The dealer hired about 400 people and is expected to create more than $13.3 million in payroll. Carvana built a 190,000-square-foot facility that contains different areas for inspecting and servicing of vehicles being prepared for sale. It's a center for the inspection of used cars.

Elyria City Council: Mark Jessie unseated, 1st Ward sees upset, Dems hold strong to at-large seats ELYRIA — Three new faces will be on Elyria City Council next year with incumbent Democrats Mark Jessie and Judy Keys unseated after Tuesday’s election. Republican Maurice Corbin III handily defeated Jessie for the 3rd Ward with 801 votes to Jessie’s 397, or 67 percent to 33 percent, unofficially.

ELYRIA — Elyria Public Library officials are calling for the city to uphold its promise to create 41 additional parking spots for the new downtown central branch. Former Mayor Holly Brinda, the Elyria Community Improvement Corp. and the library had a contract for the property the new building sits on. In that agreement, the city agreed to reconfigure an adjacent parking lot, which sits behind the Elyria Arts Council. It would have created 41 additional parking spaces.
