Beta-cell replacement for type 1 diabetes: integrating cell products, engraftment and immune protection
Abstract Beta-cell replacement aims to restore endogenous, glucose-responsive insulin secretion in type 1 diabetes. Donor-islet transplantation has shown that this approach can improve glycaemic control and prevent severe hypoglycaemia. Its wider use is limited by donor supply, early graft loss and chronic systemic immunosuppression. Pluripotent stem cells provide a renewable source of pancreatic progenitors and differentiated islet products.
Early prediction of post-stroke depression using polysomnography parameters: a prospective cohort study
Abstract Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD) affects approximately one-third of stroke survivors and significantly impacts functional recovery. This study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model for PSD using polysomnography (PSG) parameters combined with clinical characteristics. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study enrolling 437 acute ischemic stroke patients who underwent PSG assessment within 7 days of stroke onset between January 2022 and December 2024.
Evaluating general parent-adolescent relations as a context for daily relationship processes and adolescent mood
General adolescent-reported conflict In the baseline questionnaire, adolescents responded to five items capturing a general parent-adolescent conflict from the Behavioral Affective Rating Scale (BARS; Spoth et al., 1998). Example items are as follows: “During the past month, how often did your [parent] get angry at you,” “how often did your [parent] shout, yell or scream at you.” Text was adapted to correctly identify each caregiver's role relative to the adolescent (e.g., “mother”).
Evidence on artificial intelligence-assisted clinical documentation and healthcare workers’ emotional wellbeing at work: a scoping review
Abstract Objective: This scoping review mapped evidence on artificial intelligence-assisted clinical documentation for healthcare workers’ emotional wellbeing at work, including tool types, reported favorable, adverse, or mixed findings, and evidence gaps. We also considered how these tools may shape documentation-related work demands, autonomy, clinical voice, patient connection, and broader occupational wellbeing.
A compact variable stiffness joint for compliant robotics enabled by torsion-spring mean-diameter variation
Abstract For robotic applications requiring compliance and safety in rehabilitation training, physical human–robot collaboration, and unstructured environments, this study proposes a variable-stiffness joint design method, termed TSDV, based on the mean-coil-diameter variation mechanism of a torsion spring. First, the variation of the mean coil diameter of a cylindrical torsion spring with joint deflection angle is analyzed.

Room-temperature two-dimensional multiferroic metal with voltage-controllable magnetic order - Nature Materials
Abstract Realizing two-dimensional multiferroics with robust magnetoelectric coupling for electric-field-controlled magnetism at room temperature poses substantial challenges, as ferroelectricity and magnetism inherently conflict. Here we report air-stable bilayer CrTe2 that exhibits intrinsic room-temperature multiferroicity.

Evidence of a two-dimensional nitrogen crystalline structure on silver surfaces - Nature Communications
Abstract Nitrogen, the most abundant element in Earth’s atmosphere, exists as a diatomic gas under standard temperature and pressure. In the two-dimensional (2D) limit, atomically thin nitrogen, termed nitrogene, has been theoretically predicted to form crystalline materials with various polymorphic configurations, exhibiting diverse chemical and physical properties. However, the synthesis of nitrogene has remained elusive due to the strong nitrogen-nitrogen triple bonds.
Anomalous rotational-symmetry breaking in proton arrangement of surface-confined cyclic hydrogen bonds revealed by atomic force spectroscopy - Nature Communications
Abstract In hydrogen-bonded materials and biosystems, microscopic proton ordering, which is strongly influenced by the quantum nature of protons, underpins diverse macroscopic phenomena, including phase transitions, chemical reactions, biomolecular processes and collective proton transfer. Yet resolving proton arrangements and characterizing their quantum behavior at the atomic scale remain challenging due to the small size of protons and the lack of effective approaches.

Greedy Prefetch for Reducing Off-Chip Memory Accesses in Convolutional Neural Network Inference
1. Introduction Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are essential for visual tasks like image recognition [1,2,3] and object detection [4,5,6,7,8]. Despite this, CNNs’ substantial memory demands [9,10,11] remain a challenge, with requirements ranging from tens to hundreds of megabytes even with the INT8 data type. The 1.5–10× surge in intermediate results [12] makes on-chip storage of full models unfeasible.

A Multi‐Center Real‐World Study of Clinicopathologic Characteristics and Efficacy of the Malignant Mesothelioma in Chinese Population
1 Introduction Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is a rare malignant tumor originating from serosal surfaces, including the pleura, peritoneum, pericardium, testis, and vagina, with more than 80% originating in the pleura [1]. The occurrence of mesothelioma is mainly associated with asbestos exposure. China is the first-largest asbestos consumer and the second-largest producer in the world, and there may be more than 1 million Chinese occupationally exposed to asbestos [2].

Protecting Against Postsurgery Oral Cancer Recurrence with an Implantable Hydrogel Vaccine for In Situ Photoimmunotherapy
1 Introduction Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) originates from malignant transformation of epithelial cells lining the oral mucosa.[1] Although surgical resection remains the primary treatment for OSCC, complex surrounding anatomy intricately adhered to tumors necessitates careful dissection to preserve organ function.[2] However, residual cancer cells frequently persist post-surgery due to extensive tissue manipulation during resection.

Weakened Hydrogen Bond Connectivity Promotes Interfacial Mass Transfer for Industrial Level Scalable Biomass Electrooxidation
Weakened Hydrogen Bond Connectivity Promotes Interfacial Mass Transfer for Industrial Level Scalable Biomass Electrooxidation 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural electrooxidation reaction (HMFOR) has recently garnered significant attention in the field of biomass conversion. However, the sluggish kinetics of HMFOR cause gridlock in energy conversion efficiency. Herein, we pinpoint the effect of hydrogen bond connectivity at the electrode-electrolyte interface for the performance of HMFOR.
Ultrafast Switching of Sliding Polarization and Dynamical Magnetic Field in van der Waals Bilayers Induced by Light
Sliding ferroelectricity is a unique type of polarity recently observed in van der Waals bilayers with a suitable stacking. However, electric-field control of sliding ferroelectricity is hard and could induce large coercive electric fields and serious leakage currents that corrode the ferroelectricity and electronic properties, which are essential for modern two-dimensional electronics and optoelectronics.

Deoxygenative Alkynylation of Amides via C=O Bond Cleavage
Deoxygenative Alkynylation of Amides via C=O Bond Cleavage A novel deoxygenative alkynylation of amides promoted by a synergistic action of a divalent rare-earth element and a transition metal has been developed. In this method, α-alkynyl substituted amines are synthesized from unactivated amides and alkynes in a single transformation. Broad substrate scope and excellent selectivity for C=O cleavage has been demonstrated.
