10% of global GDP growth came from the new Clean Energy economy in 2023
The clean energy economy is making its mark on global GDP, explain Laura Cozzi, Timur GĂĽl, Thomas Spencer and Peter Levi at the IEA. It accounted for 10% of global GDP growth in 2023, primarily through three activities: manufacturing of clean energy technologies, deployment of clean power capacity, and clean equipment sales. Here, the authors present the in-depth results for four of the largest economies: the U.S, the EU, China and India, which together account for two-thirds of global GDP.
Arabia Saudita delle rinnovabili | L’Australia potrebbe diventare l’hub energetico verde dell’Unione europea - Linkiesta.it
What’s your average lifetime CO2 footprint by year of birth, to achieve net-zero by 2050?
To reach net zero by 2050, babies born today must have CO2 footprints ten times smaller over their lifetimes than their parents and grandparents. In rich countries it’ll be fifteen times, while in emerging economies like India and China it’ll be around four times smaller. Laura Cozzi, Olivia Chen and Hyeji Kim at the IEA summarise how they have calculated the average allowable lifetime CO2 footprint by year of birth.
What to expect from the new WEO-2021 – Analysis - IEA
The new World Energy Outlook (WEO) is coming on Wednesday 13 October, providing critical analysis and insights on trends in energy demand and supply, and what they mean for the climate, energy security and economic development. This year’s WEO-2021 is being released earlier than usual to help inform the debate at COP26 and beyond – and, for the first time, the analysis will be available for free to ensure it finds the widest possible audience.

The importance of focusing on jobs and fairness in clean energy transitions – Analysis - IEA
From the Global Commission’s discussions and the IEA’s exchanges with stakeholders around the world, it’s clear that fostering employment and protecting communities can be a core design element of clean energy transition plans. It aligns policies with countries’ existing strengths and skill sets to maximise opportunities for new, good quality jobs.
The IEA explains its new “Net-Zero Emissions by 2050” roadmap
Today the IEA publishes its new special report, “Net Zero by 2050: a Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector”, its deepest dive so far into what’s needed for a successful global transition. It analyses the options as well as the socio-economic, behavioural and environmental impacts they will have globally.

#Infra4Dev Conference: Decarbonizing Infrastructure
Jointly organized by the World Bank’s Infrastructure Vice Presidency and the University of California, Berkeley, the second annual #Infra4Dev conference, "Decarbonizing Infrastructure," aims to explore the ways in which investments in and regulation of infrastructure are helping to mitigate the long-term effects of climate change, especially for those living in poverty in low- and middle-income countries.

Authors: Michael Waldron and Lucila Arboleya* The new IEA Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2019 (SEAO) provides a comprehensive overview of energy prospects in an increasingly influential region for global energy trends.
Understanding the World Energy Outlook scenarios
Authors: Laura Cozzi and Tim Gould Today’s energy choices and their consequences Today’s energy choices will shape the future of energy, but how should we assess their impact and adequacy? This is the task the World Energy Outlook takes on. It aims to inform the thinking of decision makers as they design new policies or consider new investments.
Growing preference for SUVs challenges emissions reductions in passenger car market
We are entering a world where renewables will make up an increasing share of our electricity supply –the electricity sector was the leading sector for energy investment in 2018, the third year in a row that this has occurred. This trend is set to continue. In WEO 2018’s New Policies Scenario, 21% of global electricity production is projected to come from variable renewables by 2040, up from 7% in 2018, supported by about $5.3 trillion of investment. The EU share is even higher at around 39%.
