CenterPoint equipment malfunction leaves thousands without power on Galveston's West End

GALVESTON Many thousands of people west of 99th Street have been without power since about 11:30 p.m. because of a serious malfunction of CenterPoint Energy’s West End substation. CenterPoint Energy at about 7:30 a.m. said more than 11,000 customers in Galveston were without power because wind-blown salt spray from Tropical Storm Arthur damaged transmission equipment. The company couldn't say when the power might be restored.
