King's researcher awarded UKRI funding to develop next generation sustainable batteries

Dr Laura Lander from the Department of Engineering has received a prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to further her research on developing sustainable and resilient batteries. Announced today, the Fellowship will support her work on developing innovative battery systems – including how to improve the sustainability and resilience of the battery supply chain by taking the strain off critical resources including lithium, graphite and cobalt.

The SA EV preview 2024

The electric vehicle (EV) wave continues to surge in South Africa, with 2024 promising exciting new models ready to hit the roads. In 2023 we saw a spike in new EV models in the SA market. This is set to increase as new players enter this space, which we cover in the SA EV preview 2024. However, while at least seven new EV models are confirmed for launch this year, there’s a notable absence: major car brands with local production or popular models haven’t officially announced their EV offerings.

South African entrepreneur unveils 'world's fastest' EV hypercar, the Ararkis Sandstorm

South African entrepreneur Priven Reddy's Ararkis Automobili company has launched the Ararkis Sandstorm Hypercar, which is claimed to do the 0-100km dash in 1.5 seconds. If the assertion is tested to be true it would make the Ararkis Sandstorm Hypercar the world record holder of the sprint. Ararkis Automobili is a newly developed venture by Reddy. The Ararkis Sandstorm Hypercar is an electric vehicle and has a range of 500km.
