As a writer and professional in the media, I have worked in print, digital, and broadcasting media for more than two decades. While most of my career has been in the entire lifestyle realm, in the last few years I have concentrated on writing pieces on trends in food and the restaurant scene, and beauty, wellness, and spas.

A graduate of the French culinary school La Varenne, I earned a grande diplôme in cuisine and pastry and worked for a few years in the hospitality industry.

While Houston’s cultured art aficionados were cooling off in Aspen, London and coasts of California this summer, there was a quiet change afoot at one of the city’s most notable museums: The former restaurant space of Bistro Menil on The Menil Collection campus found a new occupant. Houston chef and restaurateur Claire Smith (of the dearly departed Houston restaurants Daily Review, Canopy, Shade and Alice Blue) quietly made the 2,900-square-foot space her own, opening the new Chrôma.

What was your first job as a journalist?

In Los Angeles at a free weekly newspaper.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! I learned to type on a typewriter in high school. I'm grateful for that summer class so I don't have to "hunt and pick" the keyboard.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It's a great responsibility. In an era of social media influencers, journalists are the original influencers.
