Laure Siegel
VerifiedLaure Siegel’s Biography
I am a freelance journalist working in South and Southeast Asia on politics/economics and environmental issues for French and English-language media.
I founded The Myanmar Project Collective, a network of journalists documenting protests and local events across Burma since Day 1 after the Feburary 1st, 2021 military coup. Their work can be followed and supported on visualrebellion.org
I regularly teach journalism in media workshops in France and South East Asia and am the vice-president of the Union de la Presse Francophone in Thailand as well as a member of Alter-Sea (Observatory of Political Alternatives in Southeast Asia).
Prior to my work in Asia, I was based in the European capital Strasbourg and contributed to several French and German media outlets for features on international affairs, alternative cultures, and human rights in Europe and the Middle East.
As a staff reporter for ARTE, the French-German public TV channel, I coordinated a multimedia project on the issue of refugee camps in South-Asia and the Middle East, and I directed a web-series on medical cannabis.
Along with photographer Dom Pichard (P_Mod), I am the author of "Figures Libres // Portraits & Tatouage" (editions Noire Méduse), a book about the links between politics and tattoo cultures in two dozen countries.
