What was your first job as a journalist?

Writing an Opinion piece for The Tico Times while on a Fulbright in Costa Rica.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I wrote my senior thesis on it.

How is social media changing news?

It is very difficult to know whether a report is accurate or not, and it means that virtually anyone can claim to be a journalist.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Jane Craig from Broadcast News

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To expose abuses of power through fact-based investigations, and to make those abuses understandable to the typical reader of that journal.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

To have someone reach out to me with an idea and to provide supporting documentation and other people to interview.

Writers on the state of legal education.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

The piece in The Hill about the asylum seeker held in detention at the Karnes Detention Center who was deported back to El Salvador.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Morning between 8-11.
