Shipwrecked Champagne
Last summer, divers discovered a cache of incredibly old Champagne in a shipwreck off Finland's Åland islands. Today, someone snatched up part of it. Two 1840s-vintage bottles (one from the long-gone Juglar house, the other from the ubiquitous Veuve Clicquot) sold at auction for 54,000 euros (about $39,000 a bottle).
Here's what to know if you're going to bring your cat to a hotel:
Early on a mild January night, a faint, repeating beep began to sound in our apartment building. My wife, Liz, heard it first. We would have ignored it a while longer—we’re used to tuning out car alarms, agitated dogs and blaring televisions in our particular part of Queens—if we hadn’t then heard the neighbor kids running up the stairs. I opened the front door and listened as they pounded on the door to the apartment above ours, then ran back down shouting that they saw smoke.
This Is the World's Greatest Spatula for Making Scrambled Eggs
I make scrambled eggs nearly every morning. This brief, bleary-eyed ritual started several years ago during a bodyweight-prompted period of Paleo-ish eating. It continues, though I’m kind of sick of this breakfast, because my wife has grown accustomed to having scrambled eggs each morning and will not allow me to stop. Because I've scrambled actual thousands of eggs at this point, I’ve gone through a number of nonstick pans and silicone spatulas. A few months ago, one of the latter gave out.

4 Whiskeys That Taste Just Like Christmas
If you like brown liquor, you're probably quite familiar with bourbon whiskey. And its sibling, rye whiskey. And of course its fatherly forebear, Scotch whisky. You might have also come across Canadian whiskey, Japanese whiskey and perhaps even Tasmanian whiskey. But you may not be aware of a small, intercontinental subgroup that we're going to call Christmas whiskey.
WikiLeaks Hack Reveals John Podesta's Secret to Creamy Risotto
This morning, WikiLeaks released a third batch of hacked emails from Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta. Reporters began sifting through the dump, and it wasn't long until Business Insider's Allan Smith came across this revelation: Yes, that's Podesta explaining to an associate that to make proper risotto, you must add the liquid in small doses, stirring in between, until the rice becomes hydrated and some of its starch transforms into a creamy sauce.

"We paired Girl Scout cookies with wine and the results are amazing," proclaimed one of several articles that had been bouncing around Twitter.
