Lee Hedgepeth’s Biography

Lee Hedgepeth is an investigative journalist based in Birmingham, Alabama.

Lee currently covers environmental news in Alabama for Inside Climate News. Lee founded Tread, a newsletter featuring unflinching reporting from the heart of the U.S. South. Lee has also worked for news outlets including CBS 42, the Anniston Star, and Lagniappe Weekly, covering events ranging from impeachments to executions.

Throughout the years, Lee's work has been repeatedly cited by national outlets including the New York Times and the Washington Post, among others. His journalism has also been syndicated across over a hundred television stations and newspapers across the country. Lee has also published freelance reporting and photography in outlets including NOLA.com, the New Statesman, and Times Higher Education.

Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Alabama, as well as master’s degrees in journalism and political development from the University of Alabama and Tulane University, respectively.
