Introduction The natural product febrifugine 1 is found in Dichroa febrifuga, a plant which belongs to the Saxifragaceae family1 and this trans-2-3-disubstituted piperidine 1 co-occurs with its hemiketal cis-diastereomer, isofebrifugine 2 (Scheme 1).
