What was your first job as a journalist?
Delving into Dance reporter on diversity in the dance industry.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I have a beautiful pistachio coloured vintage number :)
How is social media changing news?
It's the information age. We all have access to so much information and with that opinions masquerading as fact. Discerning is important.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Lois Lane from Superman.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be burning with curiousity to unveil the world in all its fascinating truths.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
#spreadyourlegs (from the Chris Hipkins, NZ Covid minister gaff)
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Politely and to the point.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
A nice journal, pen, a computer.

Why did you become a journalist?
To explore and share diverse perspectives on the arts, poetry and dance.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Not high school but university. I wrote poetry for Varsity newspaper at Cambridge University.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Diversity in dance and the work that still needs to be done for Delving into Dance.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Find your passion/niche and go for it.

What's the best pitch you ever got?
Can you review the Australian Ballet's return to stage after 2 years (since Covid lockdowns)?
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Gosh. Something bigoted and uncritical maybe?
What's your favorite drink?
Sparkling water, coffee and the occasional gin and tonic.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the dance studio.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Many. I like to read varied viewpoints. The Guardian, Dance Magazine, Poetry Magazine, Artshub.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That ballet, poetry and arts are all elite, obscure and non-diverse. The truth is so far from this.
