Auckland Pride, once a month-long festival, is now much more. It's an organisation that provides support and advocacy for Takatāpui and Rainbow artists year-round. The festival, though, remains a cornerstone, and one of Tāmaki Makaurau’s biggest, warming the year up in February. In June, Hāmiora Bailey handed the Executive Director reins to Blaise Clotworthy, who first marched in the 2014 Auckland Pride Parade, and has stayed close since.

How do you hold onto home when you're oceans away? This month, Aotearoa practitioners are finding out as they exhibit in major international art systems (like the 18th Lyon Biennale in France, opening 19 September, featuring ten Aotearoa artists including Ashleigh Taupaki, Fiona Clark, and Sriwhana Spong) as well as in intimate, grassroots spaces. On both scales, artists and curators are taking relational, Indigenous, and community-centred methodologies with them.

Traditions merge in the visionary Flora

Flora, the first full-length collaboration between The Australian Ballet and Bangarra Dance Theatre, is a brave work that will touch audiences hungry for celebrations of unity and collective dreaming through art. There are few art forms that can close the perceived gap between people of different backgrounds and people and “nature” as effectively as dance, which demands, as a very proviso of engagement, bodily contact and the holding of space.
